TRANSCRIPT:

You may remember a couple of months ago, we raised concerns over Federal Funding for a round about that was announced in February 2020.

It was for the intersection of Combine St and Azalea Avenue.

Pat Conaghan, Michael McCormack and the Mayor were at the announcement.

The Deputy PM clearly pointed out the work would be undertaken by Council.

A year on, and with no progress on the project visible, I reached out to Council and to Pat Conaghan.

While I am actually still waiting back on a response from Council, I did get their response from the GM Steve McGrath to Pat Conaghan when he too raised questions on the timeline.

In the letter from Steve McGrath dated February 23, Mr McGrath stated that:

“The timeframes are as follows: Combine St/Azalea Avenue – to commence 13 April 2021, expected completion by 18 May 2021.

Please note the above dates are subject to weather conditions”.

Now, as we are now at Monday the 19th April, a week after the date our GM stated the construction would begin, yesterday I reached out to the Council asking them to confirm the following:

Why has the construction not started on the 13 April (considering there have been no weather issues to stop the work from proceeding)?

What will be the new timeframe for the construction and completion of the work?

I also copied in the Councillors and the Federal Member for transparency. So far Keith Rhoades and Sally Townley let me know they as a councillor have not been kept in the loop with this one.

I also let them know I would be discussing with you that I have sent correspondence to Coffs Harbour City Council, and that I hope to have the response for you, our listeners on tomorrow’s program.
