  • The Dark 50 - With Blair Mann part1 #93A
This evening we welcome Blair Mann back to our podcast, someone we have wanted back for a long time. Why? Well, Blair is well known in the running community and just an all-around great guy. We ask Blair what he has been up to since last we chanted and we discover he has been very busy. First of all, helping to promote trail running in Moncton and the Maritimes. Plus a bunch of events that had been cancelled and were now back up, this has kept Blair very busy indeed. A founding member of Moncton Trail Running, helping to crew people on their big goals and giving some very helpful advice, you won't want to miss this episode. If anyone is wondering, Blair just got in a fresh order of Moncton Trail Running hats and they look great. Limited number available so inquire about yours today, link below.

Over the past several weeks, I have been investing time in training for a 100-mile unsupported run in a few weeks. ( yes, you read that right... 100 miles!!) • Don't be scared of hard work - With Charlotte Love #92
Charlotte Love is our very special guest on our first episode back from our August time off and very early on we learn Charlotte has always been active. Having completed 19 full
marathons plus 2 Boston marathons and countless other ways of staying active. As a little girl, sometimes Charlotte would take the golf balls as a joke or play tag at night with a bunch of other neighbourhood kids, always on the move. Charlotte talks about how she seems to resolve some of her issues during her long slow runs and how she comes up with some great ideas at the same time. Charlotte teaches at Riverview High and gets involved in all kinds of activities at the school. She has been running for close to 50 years, and at the age of 40 started running marathons, her first in Ottawa. We start talking about the children she teaches and the Yoga class she teaches at school and how important charlotte believes this is. We really get into things and we discuss what we think needs to be done to help the
kids lead an active and healthy life. We get some amazing insight from Charlotte and she just will not give up on teaching children. Once you hear more of Charlotte's background, you will understand why. Lastly, we chat about the business Charlotte and her sister started and it's called Mount Pleasant Events. Mount Pleasant is a charming and historic former church located in Hopewell Hill, New Brunswick. They teach yoga and book all kinds of events and the link to their web page is listed below. There is so much packed into this episode we are sure you're going to enjoy it. Sit back or listen while working out, we believe you will be glad you did.

  • Legs is back and it's better than ever - With Danny Jardine and Nick Landry #91
This episode was recorded before we knew that the Saint John Marathon by the Sea has been cancelled permanently after 27 years, a sad day indeed. Low runner turnout, higher costs and a lack of volunteers were some of the reasons given. There is a lot of work put into these races and if you are losing money and not getting the results you want it makes sense. Danny and Nick are here to talk about Legs for Literacy this year in Moncton as well as all the changes they have made and all the work that has gone into this race. I have to say it sounds fantastic and after all, we have been through a nice race would be wonderful. We hope everyone gets involved somehow, running or perhaps being a volunteer, maybe even putting your own relay team together. Anything to not let Legs for Literacy go the way of the Dodo bird and become extinct. So we hope you enjoy these changes and we hope you get involved. We are posting many links below so you can get in contact with Legs or sign up or just check out the bling, see you in October.

  • True grit - With Sarah Lamos #90
Tonight we welcome someone back to our podcast, Sarah Lamos. Why is Sarah back you might ask and the reason is very easy to understand. Sarah recently completed a very gruelling 110 KM Ultra Trail race in Gaspesie Quebec. A very muddy and wet course with intermittent downpours at night but nothing would stop Sarah from achieving her goal of finishing. We talk extensively about what one needs to do to train for such an event. Plus we ask about her equipment, her diet and the friends she met along the way. How much her family and support group meant to Sarah at every checkpoint. Not many people can do
this type of course with insane elevations in those conditions but Sarah did and she wasn't going to be stopped. If you have had any thoughts about trying any kind of Ultra you should take the time to listen to Sarah's story and see what it takes. Below we post Sarah's blog where she wrote about her epic journey. It's a great read and maybe it could help you achieve your goals.

A new link that we are adding, is a fundraiser link that I have started to raise money for my personal run of 161 Km this Fall for the Canadian Cancer Society. If you have the capacity to donate I would very much appreciate it, thank you: https://fundraisemyway.cancer.ca/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.personalCampaign&participantID=1135

  • 2 stupid and 2 stubborn to quit - With Wade Lightheart #89
Tonight our very special guest is someone we want to welcome back to our podcast, Wade Lightheart. Wade and I have been friends for nearly 40 years and he inspired me to get back into running. Introduced me to a wonderful book titled Slowburn, and I have been running ever since. Wade can definitely inspire and we talk about that in tonight's episode. Wade works hard at what he does and loves taking on even more challenges, when people say something can't be done, Wade looks at it as why can't that be done? Now at 50 Wade is going back into a competition for Natural bodybuilding and planning on running a marathon within a short time of that competition. Saying these two things don't normally go hand in hand is a massive understatement. Wade is determined and has the mindset and dedication and by reading his books you could as well. His company Bioptimizers, has helped thousands of people and maybe he can help you as well, a link is listed below and he is giving our listeners 20% off so you may want to give it a look.

  • Just do it, trust the process - With Jennifer Williston and Karine Godin #88
Tonight our very special guests are Jennifer Williston and Karine Godin, and these two ladies love to challenge themselves and run on the trails. They both lead the Moncton women's trail running group and we hear the passion in tonight's conversation from both of them. Both have extensive backgrounds and love and played multiple types of sports over the years. Karine recently completed a 54km Ultra Trail run in Gaspésie on a very muddy course. Jennifer has completed the Sonofa Gunofa and one called Beat to Snot. Have to love some of the names of these runs, very cool. Listen to Jennifer and Karine tell their stories about how they got into trail running and why it's for them and what helps motivate them to move. Starting up the Women's trail running group in Moncton is only the tip of the iceberg for these two so stay tuned to see what they do next.

  • Buddy up: Help a buddy - With Darren Duguay #87
The main goal for this episode with Darren Duguay is to talk about the Buddy Up campaign. How 3/4 of all suicides are men or boys and how we can help to change those numbers by being aware. We are trying to move the needle with programs like Buddy Up and Darren helps us by teaching us that things just don't have to be this way. By adding tools to our toolbox we can help our friends and our community to be a better place. This can be a tough subject to discuss like this on a podcast but we feel it is very important and hopefully, we all get something very valuable out of this episode. Below we link to the Buddy Up page and Canada's suicide prevention hotline.

  • Life is as hard as you make it - With Reid Burrows part2 #86b
Reid Burrows is back in part 2 of his podcast episode and Reid lays it all on the line once again. It's all about the process and Reid is enjoying the hard work. Reid tells us if he does all the hard work and he isn't successful that he will be satisfied with the results. Reid has come such a long way because at one time he hated life and was thinking about ending things but that is not Reid today. With aspirations of running Western States, Reid is going to train in Arizona and see if he can achieve his goal. We at Motivate to Move, believe Reid is going to kick some serious butt once he gets there. This story is such an incredible listening we suggest you take the time and listen to both parts 1 and 2. Thanks for the never give up on yourself attitude Reid, sometimes that's exactly what we need to hear.

Tonight our very special guest is Reid Burrows originally from the small town of Grand Bay-Westfield here in NB. Reid was racing triathlons nationally and internationally and then an accident changed everything. Reid is now promoting a link between mental health and trail running and that is where our conversation mainly goes. Reid tells us of his mental health issues and how it all started, how he is dealing with it and how it absolutely will not win over him. Reid is a fighter and once you hear his story, you will see that life is indeed what you make of it.

  • I wish I had pushed the limits more - With Andrew Jefferies #85
Tonight our special guest is Andrew Jefferies and Andrew's main activity is Adventure racing, something he is very passionate about. Adventure racing is generally 2 or 3 different activities with a running component and a tracking component and perhaps a biking component added. In other words a Multi-disciplinary team sport. Always with a map and checkpoints, there are several different versions of this format. Four to eight hours is the
typical local race time but there are some that go for two to four days, holy cow. Andrew tells us how and why Adventure racing became a large part of his life. After doing their first race of 4 hours their next race was for 48 hours. A huge escalation for only being 2 races in but it worked for Andrew and his friend Wayne, they were certainly hooked. We talk about sleep deprivation and nutrition and how you don't have any idea of the route until 1 hour before the start. This makes planning and strategy tough indeed. Some fantastic stories about past races and the experiences that Andrew has had while Adventure racing, makes this a must-listen, especially for those that want to challenge themselves.

Adventure racing link Andrew talked about sharing, go check it out.
