  • The finish is always worth it - With Alex Coffin #109
Tonight's very special guest is Alex Coffin and many of our listeners would already know Alex, definitely a local legend and 100% motivated to keep on moving. Alex started running at an early age, running from his place to his Grandparent's place and just never stopped. Winning championships in high school and in university, getting into aquatics and the Running Room out West, then back home to the East coast and Saint John. Incredibly Alex has won the Saint John Marathon 7 times, an amazing accomplishment and something that is tough to even consider. Alex has done Triathlons and run as a pace bunny over 10 times for marathons. Always teaching and giving back to the community whenever possible. Now his daughters are involved in the running world and they are doing events together. A wonderful journey that you will not want to miss, so stay for a spell and hear a very motivating interview.

  • Slow down and be you - With Tyler Isbister #108
Tonight's very special guest is Tyler Isbister, originally from Alberta and now resides in the Antigonish area in NS. We discuss Tyler working in the restaurant industry for many years and how he has worked with many well-known Canadian celebrity chefs. Having represented Alberta in the Western Canadian Summer games at Softball and how an injury ended his playing career. Tyler tells us about how he had started down the wrong path as a young man. He lost his confidence and slipped into depression. Then running helped Tyler get back on the right track, instead of using drugs his running would be like a drug for him. Tyler has been on track for quite some time and he is involved in community runs and has a plan to try and develop a youth drop-in centre, something desperately needed. We also chat about being a product Ambassador and I have to agree this could be a nice way to help keep costs down. Tyler has some information about being an Ambassador and all the links will be below in the show notes, you may want to check it out. This year Tyler is really focused on Backyard Ultra and we can't wait to see him pull it off, it will be an epic year.

  • Embrace what you have - With Gina Burrows #107
Gina Burrows is tonight's special guest and it's not difficult to see that Gina keeps herself busy all the time and is very motivated. What Gina does throughout the week to keep in shape would be tough for most people. Swimming, bike rides, runs, strength training and yoga and there is always more to do. Gina recently took a trip to Maryland to help crew for her son Reid on his 50-mile run and loved every minute of it. Just being outdoors and keeping in shape keeps Gina busy and happy. Gina recently had a serious injury but of course after a lot of time training and fixing her injury she was back at a Half Ironman in Augusta, 70.3 total miles. Her last one was in 2016 but now that she is back and healthy we know Gina has set more goals for herself and we believe you can bank on this happening. Lots of topics in this episode and it is great hearing how inspired Gina is, it's very refreshing and we hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did recording it.

Some links Gina wanted us to share: Human performance centre. Very cool videos.

  • Sibling rivalry, the bunny edition - With Carrie Gregory and Sandra Cottreau #106
Tonight our very special guests and two wonderful young ladies, Carrie Gregory and her sister Sandra Cottreau. These ladies stay very active and are highly motivated. It wasn't a surprise to find out that their entire family stays very active, they have all run Boston and this year mom plus daughters Carrie and Sandra are running Boston together. I met Carrie while she was pacing her first marathon in PEI in October 2022. We had a great chat and I just knew we had to have her on our podcast. Carrie brought her sister Sandra to the podcast recording. We found out that Sandra won the marathon in PEI in 2022 on the lady's side, a fantastic achievement. The sisters chat with us about the importance of strength training and going to the gym. How much that helped them improve their times on the courses. We get into the friendly sibling rivalry they have with one another and how they push each other to achieve their goals. A fantastic conversation with 2 wonderful people and we are sure you will not want to miss this episode. It's possible after listening to their future goals you may want to put on a pair of running shoes and go for a run. Also in this episode at the beginning, we announce the two winners of our contest. we thank everyone that entered and we want to congratulate Nick Landry and Michelle Brenton, congratulations!!!

  • If you don't know better you can't do better - With Stan Sarty #105
Tonight's special guest is Stan Sarty. Stan and his good friend John Mooy started up True North Pacing. What that means is when you see pace bunnies in the Maritimes at running events, it's probably their organization. In 2012 Stan had something happen to him that would change the way he looked at things forever. We will let Stan go over what happened in this episode because Stan tells it so well. Stan was motivated to get himself in better shape. Besides, Stan Has 4 children and he wanted to help himself to be around to see all 4 grow up. Everything just escalated from that point on, not only was Stan running events everywhere but he was having fun doing it. After True North Pacing got started anything seemed possible. Stan has done 13 marathons in total and he would love to put Boston on that list. With a great coach under his belt and fantastic determination, we believe Stan can do anything. This episode has a lot packed into it and Stan is a wonderful storyteller, we believe you're going to love it. Don't forget about our contest and the draw date is coming up fast, January 26th to be exact. Send in those entries and have a chance to win a ticket to either A day in Wentworth on May 21 or the Chiggy Ultra on September 23. • A day in Wentworth or the Chiggy Ultra - With John Collicott #102
We welcome John Collicott back to our podcast for this episode and we are very happy to have him back on our show. John's first visit we discussed how John got started running all these crazy events, along with his 100-mile adventure that he completed. This episode is more about what John and his wife Debra do for Wentworth Valley Trail Runners and for many other trail runners. They put a lot of work into 3 wonderful events each year and the stories we hear about lugging food and equipment through the woods to get to checkpoints for these runs are crazy. We also dig deeper into Chiggy Ultra and a Day in Wentworth, what both runs are about and how they work and with these two lovely people at the helm you know it's going to be a wonderful event. John and Debra offered us 2 tickets to give away in a draw that we will be having on the 26th of January 2023. All you have to do is email us your favourite episode of Motivate to Move and why, your name will go into a draw and 2 lucky people will win free entries to either race. We welcome Michelle Brenton back to our podcast for this week's episode. The last time Michelle joined us was way back in episode #6, an excellent talk all on its own. This episode's main focus is on her recent attempt at her first Ironman competition, something that took 3 years to actually take place. • 160+1Km just for funsies - With John Leygraaf #100
Diane sits down with me and asks a number of questions about my 100-mile run event back at the beginning of October. We discuss my nutrition and what I was drinking during my event. How I was feeling at various times while I was running. The people I was running with and the tremendous support I had from friends and family. It was an epic moment for me when I crossed the finish line and so many people were there. I want to thank everyone for taking the time to come out, comment, and run with me, it was fantastic and I enjoyed all of it. I also talk about my thoughts for next year, which is to map out and do another 100 km run and see if anyone would join me for that event. A person could run whatever distance they like, maybe 50 km or 100 km. I would love to have others run the entire way with me and we would do this all for charity. So listen to this episode and maybe you might want to join, thank you.
