Level Up with Lacey

My Employees are getting casual and sloppy on dress code… HELP!!!!!

Listen Later

If your salon team has been showing up a little too casual lately, you’re not imagining it… and you’re definitely not alone! 😅

In this episode, we're getting real about that moment every salon owner dreads: when your once-polished, on-brand team starts looking more “Sunday Target run” than “$100/hour luxury service.” But don’t worry—we’re not here to shame anyone or stir up drama. We’re here to fix it with love, leadership, and zero nagging.

Here’s what we cover:

⭐️1:1 conversations are your best friend
No one wants to be called out in front of the whole team—ever. Keep it private, respectful, and rooted in standards, not opinions.

⭐️ Bring the receipts (aka your dress code)
You made that dress code policy for a reason. Now it’s time to print it out, reference it, and use it during your one-on-ones as a neutral, non-judgy reminder.

⭐️ Make it about self-reflection, not criticism
Ask your team members: “On a scale from 0 to 10, how do you feel you’ve been representing our brand with your appearance lately?” This flips the script and encourages honest conversation.

⭐️ Visual dress code guides = your secret weapon
If you made them… USE them! Bring them out seasonally for fresh inspiration and to re-align your team’s look with your brand vibe.

⭐️"Target cute" ≠ "Salon appropriate"
We said what we said—with love! There’s a major difference between weekend casual and looking like the beauty professional you are.

⭐️ Hair and makeup? NON-NEGOTIABLE.
We're in the business of beauty! Your look is your first impression, and it speaks volumes before you ever say a word.

⭐️ Look good → Feel good → Show up better
Confidence is contagious. And when your team is put together, it sets the tone for client trust and higher-level service.

⭐️ You set the standard
If you’re showing up in yoga pants and a messy bun, that’s the tone you’re setting. Step into your leadership power and model what you expect.

Hard conversations might feel awkward—but avoiding them can cost you your brand. Tune in for practical scripts, mindset shifts, and a whole lot of encouragement to help you navigate these conversations! 💪🏼
