Making it just in time for last call this week is the one and only Tez Ilyas. Tez is one of the stars of hit sitcom Man Like Mobeen and has appeared on Mock the Week, The Last Leg and so much more. He has also written and starred in his own scripted comedy shorts for BBC Three, BBC iPlayer and Sky Arts and we are absolutely delighted he chose to drink with us.
Tez ordered mocktails for the night - Masud treated the bar to…
Sweet Sunshine
4oz Orange Juice
½ oz Grenadine
Orange Slice
Fill a highball glass with ice and orange juice. Slowly pour the Grenadine over, it will sink. Garnish with orange slice.
Sundowner
4oz Grape Juice
2 ½ oz Sparkling Water
1 Mint Sprig to Garnish
In a highball glass with ice pour over the grape juice then sparkling water. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.
At the Mystery on the Rocks bar you’ll find a retired sleuth, the bartender trying to settle his tab, and the down-on-her-luck lounge singer, solving mysteries and drinking cocktails. Each week a new guest enters the bar and attempts to solve an unsolved mystery alongside the regulars. Hosted by Masud Milas, Chris Stokes, and Sooz Kempner. It’s a high concept comedy and true crime podcast, set in a fictional crime-solving bar (with real cocktails!). The focus of the show is to attempt to crack a real, unsolved mystery from history – true crime and bizarre occurrences, all with a whodunnit or WTF happened question hanging over them. Masud makes the drinks, Chris tells the mystery and Sooz sings and plays live piano – and everyone chats and chimes in with their theories.

In 2010 he sold out his debut solo hour at the Edinburgh Fringe, "Pretend You're Happy" and in 2011 sold out his second solo Edinburgh show "We're Living in The Future. He also co-wrote and starred in cult online spoof documentaries Unfinished London, and recently helped solve The Bizarre Disappearance of Keith Reinhard in Silver Plume, Colorado. Or did he?

Propping up the bar on today’s episode is Kemah Bob! Kemah is a brilliant stand-up comedian, writer, improviser, drag king, presenter and producer from Houston, Texas – and, yes, is proud of drinking the same tap water as Beyoncé. How lucky we are that she found her way into the bar to help us solve the mysterious case of Alexandria Berstecher.
The drinks Masud poured today are…
Manhattan
1 ⅔ oz Rye Whiskey
¾ oz Sweet Vermouth
2 Dashes Angostura Bitters
Pour the whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters into a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir until outisde of shaker is very cold to touch. Place cherry in the bottom of the glass and strain the contents of the mixing glass over. Serve immediately.
Salty Dawg
1 ½ oz Gin
3oz Fresh Pink Grapefruit Juice
½oz Fresh Lime Juice
Sea Salt
Add gin and grapefruit juice to a cocktail shaker and fill with ice. Shake until well chilled, about twenty seconds. Strain into ice-filled glass, add salt on top and serve.

Pulling up a chair at the bar today is Nick Helm! Winner of the Chortle Award for best music and variety act in 2015; Helm was previously nominated for the Foster's Edinburgh Comedy Award in 2011 and 2013. He also starred in the BBC Three sitcom Uncle. We’re chuffed he stumbled into the bar and helped solve the mystery of what happened in room 1046 of the Hotel President, a case which remains unsolved to this day.
The drinks Masud rustled up are…
Old Fashioned
2oz Bourbon
¼oz Simple Syrup
1 Dash Angostura Bitters
1 Dash Orange Bitters
Stir the bourbon, simple syrup, and bitters in a mixing glass with ice. Strain into a rocks glass with one large ice cube. Garnish with an orange peel.
