Running your own business is unbelievably rewarding, but for many small business owners having sole responsibility for the company's success or failure can take its toll. Same goes for life in general. 

While it can be tempting to focus all of your time and attention on your business, or project or even family, it's also essential that you take care of yourself! It is the best way to live your life!

Welcome to our 2nd book review: Blue Ocean Strategy!

Blue ocean = available market space = opportunities!

The book is about breaking made up market boundaries and looking at new ways to create new rules!

How to create a new demand by building a new strategy!

A market analysis is as irrelevant as your competition!

In this episode, we are going to talk about the 3 parts of the book which are differentiation & low cost, creating new demand and people!

We will review 2 examples used in the book (out of many): Nintendo & Yellow Tail. 

Then we will conclude our episode by looking at how to apply the Blue Ocean Strategy to social media.

The idea behind all of this really is that you design your own life by focusing your time and your energy on things that you can do something about!

The Circle of Influence represents all the things in our lives, both personally & professionally that we have absolute control over. Things like our attitude, body language, choices, things we say, and our behavior would fall within our circle of influence.

Proactive people tend to focus on things in their circle of influence, things they can actually do something about. 

Reactive People focus on the circle of concern. As a result, their circle of influence can shrink.

Habits & Routines

When you're dealing with difficult situations, think to yourself, "Is this in my circle of influence?" And handle it accordingly. Start chain reaction with small actions.

1- Defining what a generation is & 5 generations

A group of people with similar social, economical and political issues. A group of people with similar habits.

The length of a generation is determined by the birth of a parent to the birth of a child. In many cases the male-line generations are always longer from father to son, than female-line generations, from mother to daughter.

Why is it important?

It allows marketers to target an audience on the basis of their similarities and dissimilarities.

As a business owner, you do not want to alienate some of your customers! Generational differences affect purchase behavior.

A conversation turns crucial when signs show that people do not feel safe anymore and your own style of communication is under stress.

Fear drives silence. To make an environment safe, recoding silence is essential. Look when safety is at risk.

Do not back away, arguing matters, do not force your opinion on someone, start with how you feel, focus on what YOU want! Do not focus on winning and clarify what you want for YOU!

We all want meaning and purpose in our work! We all want to be appreciated & make impactful contributions to the people around us. Across every layer of management, this concept should be understood to run a company the right way & reduce stress.

- Your Clients: What company do you like buying from the most? What kind of clients are you to them? Mindset: "I will adapt and make it happen!"

- Your suppliers: Tell your suppliers that you appreciate the collaboration you have! Say what you like about the service/product. Mention the names of individuals who have provided extra help.
