In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I’m re-releasing a conversation I had with the amazing Nancy Brinker, a woman who is the undeniable leader in the global war to eradicate breast cancer. In a single generation the organization she founded in the name of her sister Susan G. Komen has changed the world and the way we talk about not just breast cancer, but all types of disease. The Susan G. Komen foundation has also invested some $2.6 billion in breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment. Nancy knows the disease of breast cancer — both as a loved one and as a patient having battled the disease herself.

If that were not enough, Nancy’s list of accomplishments and awards are almost too numerous to mention, but a few highlights include:

2009 Presidential Medal of Freedom awardee; Goodwill Ambassador for Cancer Control of the UN World Health Organization; author of a best-selling memoir “Promise Me;” former US Ambassador to the Republic of Hungary; former US Chief of Protocol; and more.

Given the impact COVID has had on our lives, it can be easy to put off things like going to get a mammogram. If it’s on your  to do list for this year, please don’t put it off. Use Nancy as the inspiration to get it done — both for yourself and for those who love you!
