With just 85 votes short of meeting the 60% threshold, results showed that the bond referendum for Williston Public School District 1 failed for the second time. Host Joel Heitkamp talks with the President of the District 1 School Board, Joanna Baltes, about the failure of the referendum and what is next for the school board. "We have a massive overcrowding problem in our schools and much of that has to do with the oil and gas industry," says Baltes. "We want to educate our kids in a manner that everyone else is across the state."
This Friday, April 12th, the ND State Board of Public School Education will be a holding a public meeting in Bismarck for Williams County School District 8 and Williston School District 1 to discuss enrollment and a number of other different issues.
"It's difficult to explain to voters when you are asking them to come out and vote on a band where it's their property taxes that are again paying for this. There's no help from the state when we are sending such a tremendous amount of money that benefits the rest of the population," says Baltes.
