The Trump administration recently announced that the Department of Education will start collection activity--including seizure of wages and federal benefits--against borrowers who have defaulted on federal student loans. Alarms are raised but in terms of practice, there's nothing new happening here. The announcement marks the resumption of procedures that have been in place for decades and were paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
