  • Doing All Things Without Complaining
There is a command in Scripture that is simple to understand but challenging to obey. Philippians 2 verse 14 says, "Do all things without complaining and disputing." Do all things. Not some things. Not the things you feel like doing. All things. Without complaining. Without grumbling. Without arguing. This is a high standard, but it is possible through the Holy Spirit. Complaining is a sin that is often overlooked and excused. But it is serious because it reveals a heart that is not trusting God.My dear friend, complaining is essentially telling God that He is not doing a good job. It is saying that your circumstances are wrong and that you deserve better. It is the opposite of gratitude and trust. The Israelites in the wilderness complained constantly, and it cost them the Promised Land. God takes complaining seriously. But when you learn to do all things without complaining, you demonstrate a heart of trust, gratitude, and maturity.Think about the Israelites. God delivered them from Egypt with mighty signs and wonders. He parted the Red Sea. He provided manna from heaven and water from a rock. He gave them His presence in a pillar of cloud and fire. Yet they complained constantly. They complained about the food. They complained about the water. They complained about Moses. They complained about their leaders. They complained about their circumstances. And their complaining displeased God greatly. Numbers 11 verse 1 says, "When the people complained, it displeased the Lord." Their complaining kept an entire generation from entering the Promised Land.Think about Paul. He learned the secret of contentment in every situation. He wrote in Philippians 4 verses 11 and 12, "I have learned in whatever state I am to be content. I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need." Paul did not complain about his circumstances because his contentment was in Christ, not in his situation.Think about Jesus. He endured the greatest injustice in history. He was falsely accused, beaten, mocked, and crucified. Yet He did not complain. First Peter 2 verse 23 says, "Who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return Hosted on Acast. • Developing the Mind of Christ
One of the most transformative things that can happen to you as a believer is developing the mind of Christ. First Corinthians 2 verse 16 says, "But we have the mind of Christ." This means that as a believer, you have access to the very thoughts, perspectives, and wisdom of Jesus Himself. The Holy Spirit living in you can shape your thinking to align with God's thinking. You can learn to see the world, see your circumstances, and see other people the way Jesus sees them.My dear friend, your mind is the battlefield. The enemy attacks your mind with lies, doubts, fears, and deceptions. If he can control your thinking, he can control your life. That is why Romans 12 verse 2 says, "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Transformation happens through the renewal of your mind. When your mind is renewed, your life is transformed. Developing the mind of Christ is the key to lasting change.Think about how Jesus thought. He thought in terms of the Father's will. He said in John 5 verse 30, "I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me." Jesus's mind was completely aligned with the Father. He did not have a divided mind. He did not struggle with conflicting priorities. He knew the Father's will, and He did it. That is the mind of Christ you are called to develop.Think about the apostle Paul. He wrote, "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus." Paul understood that the Christian life is not just about behavior modification. It is about a fundamental change in how you think. He wrote in Philippians 4 verse 8, "Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things." Paul was giving a prescription for developing the mind of Christ. Fill your mind with what is true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and praiseworthy.Think about the difference between the natural mind and the spiritual mind. The natural mind focuses on the seen, the temporal, and the material. The spiritual mind focuses on the unseen, the eternal, and the spiritual. The natural mind is anxious about circumstances. The spiritual mind is at peace because it trusts God. The natural mind is proud and self-reliant. The spiritual mind is humble and dependent on God. Developing the mind of Christ means learning to think spiritually rather than naturally. So how do you actively develop the mind of Christ in your daily life? First, saturate your mind with Scripture every single day. The Word of God is the revealed mind of God. It contains His thoughts, His values, His priorities, and His perspective on every area of life. The more you read, study, memorize, and meditate on Scripture, the more your thinking will naturally align with God's thinking. The Word renews your mind daily and progressively transforms your thought patterns from worldly to godly. It corrects wrong thinking that you have developed over years and establishes right thinking based on eternal truth.Second, learn to take every single thought captive and make it obedient to Christ. Second Corinthians 10 verse 5 gives us this essential spiritual discipline. You do not have to accept or entertain every thought that comes into your mind. You have the authority and the responsibility to examine every thought, evaluate it against the truth of Scripture, and actively reject any thought that does not align with the mind of Christ. Police your thoughts diligently. Challenge fearful thoughts with God's promises. Replace lies with truth.Third, practice the presence of God continuously throughout your day. As you cultivate an ongoing awareness that God is with you at every moment, your thoughts naturally and progressively align with His. When you are consciously aware that the Holy Spirit lives in you and that He hears every thought, you begin to think more carefully, more purely, and more righteously.Fourth, ask the Holy Spirit daily to guide and direct your thinking. The Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of truth. His primary ministry is to guide you into all truth and to reveal Christ to you. Invite Him specifically to bring the thoughts of Christ to your mind. Ask Him to shape your perspective on every situation you face, every decision you need to make, and every person you interact with.Fifth, carefully guard what you allow to enter your mind through your eyes and ears. Be extremely selective about what you watch, read, and listen to. The old saying is absolutely true. Garbage in produces garbage out. What you feed your mind will shape your thinking whether you realize it or not. Diligently fill your mind with things that feed your spirit and align with the mind of Christ. Protect your thought life like the precious battlefield that it is.What this produces in your life is a transformed life that reflects Jesus. When you have the mind of Christ, you respond to situations differently. You have peace in chaos. You have wisdom in confusion. You have love for the unlovable. You have patience in trials. Your thinking becomes a powerful witness to the reality of Christ in your life. The mind of Christ is not just a concept. It is a practical reality that changes how you live every day.Let us pray. Father, I want to have the mind of Christ. Renew my mind by Your Word. Help me to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ. Help me to fill my mind with what is true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and praiseworthy. Holy Spirit, guide my thinking. Shape my perspective. Help me to see everything the way Jesus sees it. Transform my life by renewing my mind. Let the mind of Christ be formed in me. In Jesus mighty name, amen. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  • Being Led by Peace
One of the most practical ways the Holy Spirit leads you is through peace. Colossians 3 verse 15 says, "And let the peace of God rule in your hearts." The word "rule" here means to act as an umpire or arbitrator. The peace of God in your heart should be like an umpire that makes the call. When you have peace about a decision, that is a green light. When you lack peace, that is a red light. Learning to be led by peace is one of the most important skills in the Christian life.My dear friend, God is not the author of confusion. He is a God of order and peace. When you are walking in His will, you will have a deep, settled peace in your heart, even if your circumstances are chaotic. That peace is the witness of the Holy Spirit that you are on the right path. Conversely, when you are moving in a direction that is not God's will, you will often experience a lack of peace, a restlessness, a check in your spirit. Learning to recognize and follow that peace is essential.Think about Jesus. He had perfect peace in every situation. When the storm raged on the Sea of Galilee, Jesus was asleep in the boat. His disciples were terrified, but Jesus was at peace. He said to them, "Peace, be still." Jesus was never panicked, never anxious, never driven by fear. He was always led by peace because He was always in perfect alignment with the Father.Think about Paul and his missionary journeys. In Acts 16, Paul and his companions were trying to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them. We are not told exactly how the Spirit prevented them, but it likely involved a lack of peace. They were then led by a vision to go to Macedonia. Paul learned to be sensitive to the Spirit's leading, whether through open doors, closed doors, peace, or the absence of peace.Think about the early church in Acts 15. They faced a significant decision about whether Gentile believers needed to follow the Law of Moses. After much discussion, they came to a decision. Acts 15 verse 28 records their words. "It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us." They were led by the Spirit into a decision that brought peace to the church. So how do you learn to be led by peace? First, make peace with God through the blood of Jesus. Romans 5 verse 1 says, "Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." If you are not at peace with God, you cannot be led by His peace. Confess your sins. Receive His forgiveness. Settle the issue of your relationship with God.Second, cultivate peace in your heart through prayer. Philippians 4 verses 6 and 7 promise that when you pray with thanksgiving, the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your heart and mind. The more you pray, the more peace you have. The more peace you have, the more sensitive you are to the Spirit's leading.Third, learn to recognize the difference between God's peace and natural peace. God's peace is supernatural. It exists even in the midst of chaos. It does not depend on circumstances. Natural peace depends on everything going well. God's peace is present even when everything is going wrong. Learn to recognize that supernatural peace.Fourth, when you have a decision to make, present it to God in prayer and ask for His peace. Then wait. Do not rush. If you have peace after praying, move forward. If you do not have peace, wait. Do not force doors open. Let God's peace be your guide.Fifth, obey the peace when it comes. When God gives you peace about a decision, do not second-guess it. Do not let fear or doubt talk you out of it. Move forward in faith, knowing that the peace of God is leading you. What this produces in your life is a guidance system that will keep you in the center of God's will. The peace of God is like a compass that always points to God's will. When you are led by peace, you avoid many costly mistakes. You save yourself from unnecessary regret. You walk in the confidence that you are being led by the Spirit. Being led by peace is not always easy, but it is always right.Let us pray. Father, I want to be led by Your peace. Teach me to recognize the peace of the Holy Spirit in my heart. When I have decisions to make, help me to wait on You until I have Your peace. Give me the patience to not rush ahead of You. Give me the wisdom to recognize when I lack peace as a warning. Let Your peace rule in my heart as the umpire that guides my decisions. I trust Your peace to lead me in the right path.
