  • Letting God Fight Your Battles
One of the most liberating truths in Scripture is that you do not have to fight your own battles. God fights for you. Exodus 14 verse 14 says, "The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace." The Israelites were trapped between the Red Sea and the Egyptian army. They were terrified. They cried out to Moses. They said, "Why have you brought us out here to die?" But Moses said, "Do not be afraid. Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. The Lord will fight for you. You only need to be still."My dear friend, you face battles every day. Some are physical. Some are emotional. Some are relational. Some are spiritual. Your natural instinct is to panic and try to fight in your own strength. But God is calling you to let Him fight for you. This does not mean you do nothing. It means you position yourself in faith, obedience, and trust, and let God do what only God can do. Your role is to stand. His role is to fight.Think about Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20. A vast army came against Judah. Jehoshaphat was afraid, but he sought the Lord. He prayed, "We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You." The Spirit of the Lord came upon a prophet who said, "You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord." Jehoshaphat did something remarkable. He appointed singers to go before the army and praise the Lord. As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the enemy, and they were completely defeated. God fought the battle, and the people just praised.Think about the battle of Jericho in Joshua 6. The Israelites were facing a fortified city with massive walls. The natural strategy would be to lay siege. But God's strategy was different. March around the city for seven days. Blow trumpets. Shout. That was all. No weapons. No fighting. Just obedience and praise. And the walls fell. God fought the battle. The people just obeyed.Think about David and Goliath. David did not try to fight Goliath with the weapons of the world. He refused Saul's armor. He went out with a sling and five stones. But his real weapon was his faith in God. He said to Goliath, "I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts. The battle is the Lord's." David knew that the battle was not his. It was the Lord's. And God fought for David and gave him the victory. So how do you let God fight your battles? First, recognize that the battle belongs to the Lord. The enemy you are facing is not your ultimate enemy. It is an enemy that God wants to defeat for you. Declare, "Lord, this battle is Yours. I give it to You."Second, pray instead of panic. Your first response to a battle should be prayer, not worry. Bring it to God. Lay it at His feet. Ask Him to fight for you. Your prayers are more powerful than any weapon you could wield in your own strength.Third, stand still in faith. Stand still does not mean do nothing. It means stop striving in your own strength. Stop worrying. Stop trying to control everything. Trust God. Position yourself in faith and wait for Him to move. He is faithful.Fourth, praise before the victory. Jehoshaphat sent the praisers out first. They praised before the battle was won. Praise is an act of faith that declares that God has already won. Praise releases God's power into your situation.Fifth, obey whatever God tells you to do. God may give you specific instructions. They may not make sense to your natural mind. But obey them. Your obedience positions you for God's intervention. What this produces in your life is rest in the midst of battle. When you know that God is fighting for you, you can be at peace. You do not have to be anxious or fearful. You can sleep while God fights. You can trust while God works. The battle is not yours. It is the Lord's. And He never loses.Let us pray. Father, I give You every battle I am facing today. I confess that I have been trying to fight in my own strength. I have been anxious, worried, and striving. Today I give these battles to You. The battle is Yours, not mine. I choose to stand still and see Your salvation. I choose to praise You before I see the victory. I choose to trust You to fight for me. I rest in the assurance that You never lose. Fight for me, Lord. In Jesus mighty name, amen. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  • The Blessing of Spiritual Authority
One of the most important truths to understand in the Christian life is the blessing of spiritual authority. God has established authority structures for your protection, your guidance, and your growth. Romans 13 verse 1 says, "Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God." All authority ultimately comes from God. When you submit to the authorities God has placed in your life, you are submitting to God. When you rebel against authority, you are rebelling against God's arrangement. My dear friend, the concept of authority is not popular in the modern world. The spirit of the age is rebellious, independent, and suspicious of authority. But God's kingdom operates on the principle of authority. Jesus Himself submitted to the Father. He said, "Not My will, but Yours be done." The centurion in Matthew 8 understood authority. He said to Jesus, "I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me." He recognized that Jesus had authority because Jesus was under authority. Spiritual authority flows from being under authority.Think about Jesus and the centurion. In Matthew 8, a Roman centurion came to Jesus asking for his servant to be healed. Jesus offered to come to his house, but the centurion said, "Only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. I say to this one, 'Go,' and he goes, and to another, 'Come,' and he comes." Jesus marveled at his faith and said, "Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel." The centurion understood that authority works when you are under authority.Think about David. He refused to touch King Saul even when Saul was trying to kill him. He said, "I will not stretch out my hand against the Lord's anointed." David understood that Saul was God's appointed authority, even though Saul was a flawed and sinful man. David's respect for authority positioned him to receive authority. Because he was faithful under Saul's authority, God entrusted him with the kingdom.Think about the early church. They submitted to the apostles' authority. They submitted to the elders. They submitted to one another out of reverence for Christ. The book of Acts shows that the early church was marked by order, submission, and respect for spiritual authority. And that order released the power of God.So how do you position yourself under spiritual authority? First, submit to God's authority in your life. Acknowledge that He is Lord. Obey His Word. Surrender to His will. All other authority flows from your submission to God.Second, submit to the authorities God has placed in your life. This includes government authorities, your employer, church leaders, and parents. Submit to them as unto the Lord, unless they ask you to sin. Your submission is an act of worship to God.Third, honor those in authority over you. Speak well of them. Pray for them. Do not speak evil of them. Respect their position even when you disagree with their decisions.Fourth, receive the covering that authority provides. Being under authority protects you. It provides accountability. It gives you a covering of spiritual protection. Do not be independent. Be connected.Fifth, when you are given authority, exercise it with humility and for the good of others. Authority is not for self-promotion. It is for service. Lead as Jesus led, as a servant. What this produces in your life is protection, order, and release. When you are under authority, you are protected from the enemy's attacks. You are connected to the body. You are positioned for promotion. God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Submitting to authority is an act of humility that releases God's grace in your life.Let us pray. Father, I acknowledge that all authority comes from You. Help me to submit to the authorities You have placed in my life. Give me a humble heart that is willing to be under authority. Help me to honor those over me. Protect me from the spirit of rebellion and independence. Let me be faithful under authority so that I can be trusted with authority. I submit to You as the ultimate authority in my life. • Living as Children of Light
You were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light. Ephesians 5 verse 8 says this. Before you knew Christ, you were darkness. Not just in darkness. You were darkness. Your whole being was enveloped in spiritual darkness. But when you came to Christ, everything changed. You were translated from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light. You are now light in the Lord. And because you are light, you are called to walk as light. My dear friend, light has certain properties. Light exposes what is hidden. Light guides those who are in darkness. Light brings warmth and life. Light dispels darkness. As a child of light, you have these same properties. Your life should expose the darkness of sin. Your life should guide others to Jesus. Your life should bring warmth, life, and truth to a dark world. You are not called to blend in with the darkness. You are called to shine brightly.Think about Jesus. He said in John 8 verse 12, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life." Jesus is the ultimate light. He exposed the darkness of the religious leaders. He guided the lost. He brought life to dead souls. And He said in Matthew 5 verses 14 through 16 that you are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. You are called to let your light shine before men so that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.Think about John the Baptist. John 1 verses 6 through 8 say that John was sent from God to bear witness of the light. He was not the light himself. He was a witness to the light. John lived a life that pointed to Jesus. He lived in the wilderness. He preached repentance. He baptized. Everything he did was designed to point people to the coming Messiah. John was a faithful witness to the light.Think about the early church. They lived in a dark Roman world filled with idolatry, immorality, and oppression. But they shone as lights. They loved one another. They cared for the poor. They were pure and holy. Their light was so bright that it was said of them, "See how these Christians love one another." Their lives as children of light attracted others to the gospel. So how do you walk as a child of light? First, walk in truth. Light and truth go together. Do not walk in deception, lies, or half-truths. Be a person of honesty and integrity. Let your yes be yes and your no be no. Truth attracts the light. Deception belongs to darkness.Second, walk in purity. Darkness is associated with sin. Light is associated with holiness. Separate yourself from the sinful practices of the world. Do not participate in the works of darkness. Instead, expose them by living a pure life.Third, walk in love. First John 2 verses 9 through 11 say that whoever loves his brother abides in the light, but whoever hates his brother is in darkness. Love is the evidence that you are walking in the light. When you love others sacrificially, you reflect the light of Christ.Fourth, walk in witness. Let your words and actions point others to Jesus. You are a light in your workplace, your neighborhood, and your family. Do not hide your light. Let it shine. Share your faith. Live righteously. Love generously. Be unmistakably a child of light.Fifth, walk in fellowship with other children of light. First John 1 verse 7 says, "If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another." Do not isolate yourself. Walk together with other believers. Your light combined with theirs creates a brighter witness. What this produces in your life is a powerful witness to the world. When you walk as a child of light, people notice the difference. The darkness in your workplace is dispelled by your presence. People are drawn to the light in you. They may not understand it, but they are attracted to it. Your life becomes a beacon that guides others to Jesus. You fulfill your calling as the light of the world.Let us pray. Father, I thank You that I am no longer darkness but light in the Lord. Help me to walk as a child of light. Help me to walk in truth, purity, love, and witness. Let my light shine before men so that they may see my good works and glorify You. Do not let me hide my light. Use me to dispel the darkness around me. I want to be a faithful witness to Jesus, the true light. Let my life point others to Him. In Jesus mighty name, amen. • The God of All Comfort
There is a beautiful title given to God in Scripture that you need to know in your deepest moments of pain. He is the God of all comfort. Second Corinthians 1 verses 3 and 4 say, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God." God does not comfort you just to make you feel better. He comforts you so that you can become a comforter to others. My dear friend, suffering is inevitable in this fallen world. You will experience pain, loss, disappointment, and heartbreak. But you do not have to face these things alone. The God of all comfort is with you. He is the Father of mercies. He is the source of every comfort you will ever need. He knows exactly what you need and when you need it. And He promises to comfort you in all your tribulation. Not some. All.Think about the widow of Zarephath. In 1 Kings 17, she was a Gentile widow gathering sticks for her last meal before she and her son died of starvation. She had nothing. She had no hope. But God sent Elijah to her. God provided flour and oil that did not run out. He comforted her in her desperate situation. Later, when her son died, God raised him through Elijah. God comforted the widow in her deepest loss.Think about Hannah. She was barren in a culture where barrenness was a deep shame. She was taunted by her rival Peninnah year after year. She wept and would not eat. She was deeply distressed. But she poured out her soul to the Lord at the tabernacle. And God comforted her. He gave her a son, Samuel. And her comfort became a testimony of God's faithfulness.Think about the disciples after the crucifixion. They had lost everything. Their Master was dead. Their hopes were crushed. They were hiding in fear. They were in deep grief. But on the third day, Jesus rose from the dead. He appeared to them. He comforted them. He said, "Peace be with you." He restored their hope. The God of all comfort turned their mourning into dancing. So how do you receive comfort from the God of all comfort? First, bring your pain to God honestly. Do not hide it. Do not pretend you are okay. He already knows how you feel. He wants you to come to Him with your tears, your questions, your anger, and your confusion. He can handle your honesty. Pour out your heart to Him.Second, receive comfort from His Word. The Scriptures are filled with promises of comfort. Psalm 34 verse 18, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart." Isaiah 61 verses 1 through 3 speak of God binding up the brokenhearted. Matthew 5 verse 4, "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." Meditate on these promises. Let them minister to your wounded heart.Third, receive comfort through the Holy Spirit. Jesus called the Holy Spirit the Comforter. He is the Paraclete, the one who comes alongside to help, to console, and to strengthen. Invite the Holy Spirit to comfort you. Spend time in His presence. Let Him minister to the deep places of your heart.Fourth, receive comfort through the body of Christ. God often comforts us through other believers. Do not isolate yourself when you are hurting. Let others pray for you, encourage you, and sit with you in your pain. The comfort of God often comes through the hands and words of His people.Fifth, allow your comfort to become a ministry to others. After you have been comforted, you can comfort others who are going through the same pain. Your trial becomes a platform for ministry. Your testimony of God's comfort becomes a lifeline to someone else who is drowning in grief. What this produces in your life is a ministry of comfort that flows from your own experience of God's comfort. You become a channel of God's comfort to a hurting world. The God of all comfort does not waste your pain. He uses it to make you a comforter. Your deepest hurts become the source of your greatest ministry.Let us pray. Father, I thank You that You are the God of all comfort. You are the Father of mercies. You comfort me in all my tribulation. I bring my pain to You right now. Comfort me. Heal my broken heart. Let Your Word and Your Spirit minister to me. Let me receive comfort from Your body. And when I have been comforted, help me to comfort others with the same comfort I have received. Do not let my pain be wasted. Use it for Your glory. In Jesus mighty name, amen. Hosted on Acast. • The Eternal Weight of Glory
One of the most powerful perspectives you can develop as a believer is the understanding that your present struggles are producing an eternal weight of glory that far outweighs anything you are going through right now. Second Corinthians 4 verse 17 says, "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory." Paul calls affliction light. He calls it momentary. He compares it to an eternal weight of glory that is so great that it makes the affliction seem insignificant. My dear friend, you need this perspective. When you are in the middle of a trial, everything feels heavy and permanent. The pain feels like it will never end. The difficulty feels overwhelming. But Paul says that from an eternal perspective, your affliction is light and momentary. It is light compared to the weight of glory. It is momentary compared to the eternity of joy that awaits you. The key is learning to see your trials through the lens of eternity.Think about the eternal weight of glory that Jesus endured. He faced the cross, the weight of all the sin of humanity, separation from the Father, and death. That was the heaviest affliction anyone has ever endured. But Hebrews 12 verse 2 says that for the joy set before Him, He endured the cross, despising the shame. Jesus looked past the cross to the glory that was waiting for Him. He saw the eternal weight of glory, and that made the cross bearable.Think about the apostle Peter. He wrote about suffering and glory in 1 Peter 5 verse 10. "But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you." Peter says you will suffer a while. A while. Not forever. And after that suffering, God will perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. The suffering is temporary. The glory is eternal.Think about the apostle John. He was exiled on the island of Patmos for preaching the Word of God. He was isolated, alone, and separated from everything he knew. From a natural perspective, it looked like his ministry was over. But it was on Patmos that John received the greatest revelation of Jesus Christ ever given to humanity. The Book of Revelation was born out of suffering. John's suffering produced an eternal weight of glory that has blessed the church for two thousand years. So how do you keep the eternal weight of glory in view when you are suffering? First, develop an eternal perspective. Remind yourself daily that this life is not all there is. You are living for an eternity that will never end. Your time on earth is a vapor. Your time in eternity is forever. What you do now matters for then.Second, compare your suffering to the glory that awaits you. When you are tempted to feel sorry for yourself, stop and think about what is coming. A new heaven and a new earth. No more pain, sorrow, or death. The presence of Jesus. The crown of life. The words, "Well done." When you compare your suffering to that glory, it puts everything in perspective.Third, trust that God is working something eternal in you. Your suffering is not meaningless. It is producing something. It is working for you a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. Every trial is an investment in your eternal future.Fourth, live with heaven in view. Make decisions based on eternity, not on temporary comfort. Invest your time, talents, and treasures in what will last forever. Store up treasures in heaven where moth and rust do not destroy.Fifth, encourage others with the eternal perspective. When you see a brother or sister struggling, remind them that their affliction is light and momentary and that an eternal weight of glory is being produced. What this produces in your life is a resilience that cannot be defeated. When you have an eternal perspective, you can endure anything because you know that the best is yet to come. Your suffering is temporary. Your glory is eternal. You can face any trial with hope because you know that this is not the end. The eternal weight of glory is coming. And it will make everything you went through worth it.Let us pray. Father, I thank You that my present suffering is producing an eternal weight of glory. When I am in the middle of a trial, help me to see it from an eternal perspective. Help me to remember that my affliction is light and momentary compared to the glory that awaits me. Give me the strength to endure. Help me to keep my eyes on eternity. I know that the best is yet to come. My suffering is temporary, but Your glory is eternal. Thank You that one day, every tear will be wiped away and I will be with You forever.
