Lesson Summary:

In the last three chapters of the Book of Mormon, we’ll hear from a courageous Father and his compassionate Son. Both men will testify of Jesus Christ and the miraculous plan of our Father in Heaven. Mormon will teach of the power of the Bible and Book of Mormon in the latter days. His son, Moroni, will testify of the power and goodness of God and remind us that our probationary time is limited.

Mormon 8:7-8 | Why do you think these phrases are used in hard and good ways? What is the common thread between the hard and good things Moroni is describing?

Mormon 8:39 | What do you think it means to “adorn ourselves with that which hath no life”? Does it tie into the verses you find in 9 about being brought before God at the judgment bar and seeing our “nakedness” clearly?

Mormon 9:9 | How do we reconcile an unchanging God with eternal progression? Does God still progress or is He by definition, in a perfected state? Do the two ideas conflict or do they flow beautifully for you?

This week, we’ll hear Mormon’s autobiography. It’s a coming-of-age story that helps us understand how to live and think Celestial in a very Telestial world. Mormon loves his people and desperately wants to save them from self-destruction. He’ll lead them, serve them, and stay among them from his childhood through the final battle on Cumorah.

Mormon 1:1 | If you had to make a record of your life so far. What would would make the cut? What things have you seen and heard that are worth passing to the next generation?

Mormon 3:16 | Have you and experience like this? Have you ever been prompted to stand by while watching a type of destruction? How did it broaden your understanding of the character of God, agency, or His masterful plan?

Mormon 5:1 | What motivates this change of heart? Is it about defensive vs. offensive warfare? Is it about the women and children who are sacrificed? Is it direction from the Lord?

WEEK 43: SUMMARY

Lesson Summary:

This is a week woven with warnings and promises. President Nelson just taught, “Now is the time for us to make our discipleship our highest priority.” This week’s chapters will help you understand how to accomplish that powerful invitation. In His final sermon to the Nephites, the Savior emphasizes the need for unity within His church. He directs the name of the church as well as His clear, simple, redeeming doctrine. He’ll help us understand the value of giving all we have to His work and the promise of hope to all who come unto Him. His message leaves the people hungering and thirsting after righteousness for 3 generations. Sadly, the unity begins to unravel when pride creeps back in among the people and false teachings lure hearts away from the truth.

3 Nephi 27:25-26 | How does it comfort you to know the Father is the recorder for your life? How would that knowledge impact your prayers? How does D&C 137:9 help you understand this verse?

3 Nephi 28:1-10 | If this asking to tarry on the earth was such a good choice for the 3 Nephites, why don’t we have more people choosing it in scriptural history? What makes these three (and other translated beings) distinct from ministering angels?

4 Nephi 1:3 | These people weren’t in bondage before Christ’s coming. How were they “made free”? What do you think “the Heavenly Gift” refers to?

Lesson Summary:

The Savior could have taught anything to the Nephites during His three-day visit. Interestingly, so much of His sermon was focused on their covenant connection to the House of Israel and the blessings of Abraham. After hearing that same focus from so many at General Conference, the words in these chapters feel more pertinent than ever.

3 Nephi 21:9 | Why is there a distinction between the words great and marvelous? What does the word marvelous add to greatness? Where have you seen both of these adjectives demonstrated in the Restored Church?

3 Nephi 24:11 | What does the adversary try to devour"? Why is this a fitting title? Does 2 Nephi 27:3 add any additional understanding? How does the Savior’s teachings to the woman at the well apply to this concept?

3 Nephi 26:9 | Are there doctrinal concepts or ideas you have had to accept on faith? How have those stretches of discomfort expanded your knowledge of the mysteries of God?

Lesson Summary:

This week we come to know the character of the Savior in beautiful intimate ways. First, he’ll respond to the earnest, unspoken pleas of the people by healing their wounds and blessing their families. Next, He’ll show His love for the people by giving the divine mandate to remember Him through the sacrament ordinance. Finally, His watch care is evident when He calls and authorizes the twelve to carry on His work long after He departs. This study is compelling after hearing our own apostles witness of the Savior over conference weekend.

3 Nephi 17:1 | Alma 40:8 says time only is measured unto men. Why is God bound by it? Why can’t the Savior just time travel and spend as much time with them as he needs? How do Doctrine and Covenants 38:2 and  Doctrine and Covenants 130:7 help you understand this verse?

3 Nephi 18:36-39 | Why does everyone see him when he comes but only the apostles see Him leave? What does the cloud represent? 

3 Nephi 18:35 | Why is it expedient that Jesus goes to the Father? What do the footnotes teach you about why He must go?
