Chelsey, Kelly, and Abby discuss what you can expect from our office after surgery. We cover everything from weight loss, to diet, to follow-up care. Every office/practice is different and we pride ourselves in providing care that is above and beyond the "standard" to our patients. Listen in to see what it might be like to be a part of the Panhandle Weight Loss Center family.
Join Dr. Bleu and Chelsey for a quick listen on what we learned the most from reading "Outlive" by Peter Attia, MD. This book is a game-changer for the scape of medicine we currently live in. We hope after hearing this broad, quick overview, you'll consider picking up the book and reading along with us!
Listen in as Dr. Bleu and Dr. Bo discuss our broad-spectrum view of nutrition and how we approach eating, weight loss, etc. You'll know we don't ascribe (much) to label-reading or calorie counting or diets, but what DO we value? We discuss the basics of nutrition and how our perspectives have changed over time and we get into how we view food as medicine, rather than food as calories or food as protein + carbs + fat.
Bariatric surgery is not cheap, we get it! Whether insurance covers your surgery or you are paying cash, cost is often cited as the #1 barrier to weight loss surgery. Listen in as Dr. Bo and Chelsey talk through the costs associated with obesity and the return on investment (ROI) for bariatric surgery. We preach (and practice) to anyone who will listen: investing your time, money, and energy into your health is a worthy investment! We hope this episode opens your eyes to what obesity actually costs and motivates you to sit down and evaluate what price-point is worth everything you could gain.
Chelsey Nelson, RD talks with expert coordinators, Kelly Long and Abby Sharp, about the nuances of getting your insurance to pay for bariatric surgery. We discuss options for cash pay, different insurance plans, and the requirements we see most often. Insurance is a tricky world to navigate, so we're bringing the experts to you to help clear up some of the confusion you might have!
Dr. Bo and Chelsey Nelson, RD discuss some trends that are mostly just gimmicks! We discuss alkaline water, juice cleanses and detoxes, vibration fat loss belts, WaterTok and more. Listen to see how some of these might play into the right plan, but others are just there to take your money.
*Chelsey misspoke at one point - chemistry words are hard! And Bo was too nice to correct her.
Alkaline = basic (we cover this) and alkaline water = basic, not acidic, as Chelsey said!
Dr. Bleu, Dr. Bo, and Chelsey talk about the history of snacking and how it fits (or doesn't fit) into a weight loss journey. We have all heard "eat small, frequent meals" as general nutrition advice for weight loss and it seems to be the go-to for body builders and fitness models, so how does that translate to your average person looking to lose weight or stay healthy? Listen to the end for the final vote from all 3 on whether they give snacking a thumbs up or thumbs down.
This is a repost of one of our first (and most popular) episodes! It got lost in the transfer to the new platform, so we wanted to repost for any of you that have listened to part 2 and are looking for part 1!
Chelsey Nelson, RD and Dr. Bo talk through ten "healthy" foods people start eating when they set out on their healthy & wellness journey that may actually be doing more harm than good! We go into some of the marketing claims that have lead these foods to be touted as "healthy" and discuss some alternatives to these not-so-healthy foods.
Dr. Bo and Chelsey Nelson, RD talk through some of your questions - we cover why you may/may not be fatigued after surgery, what type of "diet" to follow, how much protein to take in, why your stomach makes loud noises after surgery, how long it takes the sleeve to heal, diets before and after surgery, and what to do if you're wanting to lose more weight. Plus some other tidbits thrown in there you might want to know!
The last of the 10 Pillars of Health and Wellness! All 10 are important but we know that it can be difficult to do all of these perfect all the time. The point of these sessions is to help you understand that there are many things that lead to us being health or unhealthy. We can be in direct control of some of these but some can be a struggle! DO YOUR BEST! Pillar 8 is addressing prayer, meditation, and spirituality. We feel that it is hard to be physically fit if you are not mentally fit and it is hard to be mentally fit without belief. Pillar 9 is talking about how your community and the people that you surround yourself with. Iron sharpens iron. Pillar 10 addresses how stress contributes to your struggles. Stress can derail all of us and is apart of all of our lives. There is no easy button to make stress go away but we need to know how we address attacks our hormones and inflammation. If you are on a health journey, you have to asses how you approach stress.
