"Stir It Up: Reggae Album Cover Art" and "The Album Cover Art of Studio One Records" discuss the evolution, look and style of the the visuals and branding of reggae music. From Calypso, to bluebell rocksteady to roots reggae, and dub to dancehall, the music and visual output of this tiny island is enormous. SteveJ take a look at these two books that deal with two of his all-time favorite topics. Other Steve offers up his wisdom, humor and perhaps some guidance along the way.
Like any genre, there is the good…the bad… and, of course, the ugly. But ultimately, writing about album covers is a bit like dancing about architecture, to steal a phrase. Sometimes you just have to see it to believe it. We cover it all in our latest podcast featuring these two books.

This is Janis Joplin's story by way of our Imbalanced Brothers! It's told with affection, and a ton of the music. The tale of "little girl blue," and why her Blues were so sad. It's about The Sixties, it's about the San Francisco Scene, The Haight...the bands! It's about Big Brother meets Pearl, and sadly, it's about her death...
Vegas is laying solid odds on there being more Janis in the journey that is the Imbalanced History podcast. Email the boys at [email protected], or make a comment here to add to the adventure! We always are learning, even from our own miscues!

"Play That Rock n' Roll" proudly presents the third part of a special mini-series that details the incredible life and career of songwriter Warren Zevon. We are joined by my friend Chris to explore Zevon's full studio catalog, broken down by decade. In this episode, we cover Warren's 1989 sci-fi concept album, a collection of demos he recorded with R.E.M., his two '90s studio releases, and an acoustic live album... all of which contributed to the most commercially barren stretch of Warren's career.

April 29, 2023 in Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam saw the first 2nd night (if that makes sense) of Metallica's M72 World Tour - No Repeat Weekend where you get two totally different setlists and 2 different opening acts. On Episode 127 we talked about how the setlist was so killer, there was no way the 2nd night would be as good - but it was still awesome. We talked about how Kirk's sound was off Night 1 - but it was better on Night 2. We talked about our disappointment with the opening acts we saw on Night 1 - but were blown away by who we saw on Night 2 (I wasn't a huge Floor Jansen fan before I walked in there but I sure was when I walked out).
James, Lars, Kirk and Robert came back for more and delivered in a big way. Hear about the setlist highlights and which songs and spots I believe they'll be switching around as the tour progresses. How was Night 2 better than Night 1? How was it disappointing? We take you on the journey for my last few hours of my whirlwind 72 hour trek to Amsterdam to see Metallica!

This week Tom & Zeus review "Spinning Gold" the movie about Casablanca records founder and KISS first record label head, Neil Bogart.
Spinning Gold was released March 31, 2023 in movie theaters across the country. Its the touching story of Casablanca records founder Neil Bogart. Neil has always been a huge part of KISStory. Neil was a young successful record executive when he opened up Casablanca records in 1974. KISS was the first act signed by Neil and Casablanca. Therefore, the movie does have many KISS moments even though its not a movie about KISS.
The guys discuss the KISS parts of the movie and breakdown the movie as a whole SIOL style. They breakdown the "Beth" segment as well and that Donna Summer scene.
A fun discussion about a movie all KISS fans should see and since this is a movie review, don't miss the Marvel style ending as well.
So Walk Away Chief!

Garth Risk Hallberg is my guest in this episode of Rock is Lit. Full disclosure, Garth is the son of my late husband, Bill Hallberg, who was also a writer and teacher. Garth is here to talk about the new Apple TV+ series ‘City on Fire’, which is based on his 2015 international bestselling novel of the same title.
The first three episodes of this eight-episode music-driven mystery thriller premiere Friday, May 12, 2023. You can catch one new episode weekly through June 16, 2023.
If you haven’t seen the show trailer or read the novel yet, here’s a very brief synopsis of the plot: “A college student is shot in Central Park on July 4, 2003. The investigation connects a series of mysterious citywide fires, the downtown music scene, and a wealthy uptown real estate family fraying under the strain of the many secrets they keep.”
