Welcome to “Punky Reggae Party” a special audio documentary series of the Ska Boom podcast that focuses on the historical origins and impact of reggae on popular music that will explore the phenomenon of punk and post-punk bands adopting the sounds of reggae.
The musical development which ignited Danny Elfman’s interest in starting Oingo Boingo and inspired him to start writing his first conventional pop songs was the emergence of British 2 Tone ska bands whose music reminded him of the Highlife he had heard when he travelled throughout West Africa in the early 70s. As he said in an interview: “Hearing the ska that came out of England around 1978 is what turned me around. Highlife was a little more Latin than ska, but really up-tempo. It was hearing The Specials, Selecter and Madness and then XTC, who really clicked for me.”
Ska Boom is hosted/co-produced by Marc Wasserman & co-produced/engineered by Rob George.

This week, Rich and Clint ask: What is the greatest year in music history? 1967? 1973? 1985? Some argue that not only is 1991 the best year, but that Sept 24th, 1991 is the single most epic day in music history. The guys discuss why, as they explore which year gave us the most greatness. Special guest Jeff Symonds weighs in on the debate.

Self-Proclaimed "Hippie, Rocker, Seeker", Zeb Norris, enters the What Difference Does It Make virtual studio. Zeb was a K-Pop star long before any member of BTS was even born. In Zeb's case, KPOP was a radio station in Sacramento spinning rock of the 80s. After that, he departed the West Coast, making his way across the country to WNCS in northern Vermont. He now happily resides as the Program Director/Morning Guy at WCVT in Plattsburgh/Burlington, Vermont. CVT stands for Classic Hits Vermont. This makes him the perfect guest to discuss songs #70 to #61 from the 1985 World Famous KROQ year-end chart.
Hear all the songs discussed with a free month of Amazon Music courtesy of your 80s music aficionados at What Difference Does It Make.
