Last week, we talked about the Grove City College attacks against Jemar. We discussed how harmful and hypocritical they are and what really happened when Jemar was there. But we’re discussing Grove City because it is about much more than Grove City. This controversy is simply a microcosm of a much larger problem.
Jemar and Tyler are back to talk about how uncomfortably familiar this controversy is and why it affects those of us who frequently speak about race and justice.

Many Black Christians helped to spark the current justice conversation in America over the past 10 years and took the brunt of the hits only to see white evangelical speakers being lifted up on their backs, entering into the conversation, and replicating the same mistakes of centering themselves.

Sometimes we feel second hand embarrassment, especially in the age of social media, of our own in moments that are unbecoming. Our heart is for Black Christians. We are not shields, not stools, and we have nothing to be ashamed of.

The spiritual metaphor of a table is compelling. To set that table, on the part of the host, is an act of service. The host is setting a place for the guest. The host is working so that others will be filled. And that table is not complete when one sits in it alone. Get hungry, Fam! We’re talking food, fellowship, legacy, love, and more on this week’s Pass The Mic.
