The Philadelphia Phillies topped the St. Louis Cardinals, 2-1 in game one of their twin bill Wednesday.
Jesus Luzardo DOMINATED through seven innings allowing just one run on five hits and two walks while striking out 5.
The Phillies offense looked like they were going to get some runs for their starter in the 6th. Trea Turner and Bryce Harper led off the inning with back-to-back walks, but the Phils failed to bring a run home. Kyle Schwarber missed a 2-1 sinker over the middle of the plate and popped out to third, Nick Castellanos popped out to short and Max Kepler struck out looking at a 3-2 slider.
In the top of the 7th inning, the Cardinals finally broke through on Luzardo when Jordan Walker singled home Ivan Herrera to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.
The Phillies did respond in the bottom of the 7th. Westin Wilson came through with a one-out pinch hit single, then went to third on a Rafael Marchan single. Marchan took second base on the throw to third and was originally called out, but after review was ruled safe. Bryson Stott then stepped to the plate and brought home the tying run on an RBI infield single. Then Bryce Harper gave the Phillies the lead on a bloop RBI single. Stott tried scoring from first on the two-out bloop, but was thrown out at home.
