The Philadelphia Phillies get a late-inning scare, but still pull off the 4-3 win over the A’s!  

Zack Wheeler tossed 6.2 innings of scoreless baseball, but struggled in the 7th with two outs, issuing back-to-back walks. Those walks were the only free passes Wheeler gave away on the night. Orion Kerkering came on in relief with runners on 1st and 2nd and got Luis Urias to chase a sweeper out of the zone to end the threat and preserve Wheeler’s 22.2 scoreless inning streak.  

Trea Turner gave Wheeler the only run support he would receive while he was in the game. The Phillies’ shortstop launched a 2-1 fastball 426 feet to center field for his fourth homer of the season.  

Phillies didn’t tack on anymore runs until a three-run rally in the top of the 9th. J.T. Realmuto got things going by reaching base on an infield single and advanced to third on a throwing error by shortstop Jacob Wilson. Alec Bohm then brought J.T. home with an RBI double. Johan Rojas followed in the inning and plated Bohm on an RBI single to right. Then the man that started the Phillies scoring, topped them off, Trea Turner delivered an RBI single to center to score Rojas.  

Jordan Roman came on in relief to pitch the bottom of the 9th and, well…..made it interesting. He allowed the first two baserunners to reach, recorded an out, then surrendered a three-run homer to Mike Kurtz to make it a one run game.    

Rob Thomson saw enough from Romano and dipped back into the Pen to get Tanner Banks who slammed the door with just four pitches.
