The Philadelphia Phillies take an extremely frustration loss as they fall to the Los Angeles Dodgers, 3-1.
In short, it was some very bad baseball. Cringe-worthy actually.
The Phillies managed just four hits in the loss, with two walks and one hit-batsman. They seemed overly aggressive, even by the standard they’ve set over the last several years. The approach was at it’s worst in the 4th inning, when Bryce Harper worked a walk and starting pitcher Roki Sasaki looked to begin to lose his are slot. The next to batters, Alec Bohm and Max Kepler each swung at the first pitch and recorded fly outs. Then Nick Castellanos struck out to end the inning after an at bat that featured him swinging at two splitters in the dirt.
As for the high of frustration, that came in the 7th inning, when Kyle Schwarber stepped to the plate with J.T. Realmuto on third and Bryson Stott on first. With a full count, Stott took off for 2nd as Schwarber hit line drive to right field. Stott was late to throw on the breaks and got doubled off 1st base. That double play not only ended the inning, but also negated Realmuto scoring the game tying run on what would have been a sac fly RBI.
Aaron Nola takes the loss, dropping to 0-2 on the season. He went 6 innings allowing 3 runs. He surrendered a two-run homer to Kike Hernandez in the 1st and a solo homer to Michael Conforto in the 6th.
