The Philadelphia Phillies win a WILD 11 inning affair as they beat the A’s 9-6 to notch their 9th straight win!
THe Phillies trailed 6-5 with one out in the top of the 9th inning when Max Kepler saw a first-pitch fastball from Mason Miller and jumped all over it. Kepler drilled a solo homer to right to even the score and give the shot a chance at extras.
After a 1-2-3 bottom of the 9th by Tanner Banks, the Phillies failed to score first in the top of the 10th.
In the bottom of the 10th. Orion Kerkering faced a bases loaded no out situation. Somehow, he got out of it. First he forced Brent Rooker to fly out to shallow center field where Brandon Marsh made one of the best plays, if not THE best play of his career. Marsh caught Rooker’s fly ball then fired home to nail the would-be game winning run. It ended up as a 8-2 double play. Kerkering then got Langeliers to fly out to left to end the threat.
In the top of the 11th it was the Kyle Schwarber show. The “Schwarbarian” who already hit his 18th homer of the season earlier in the night, lined a two-run double to the wall in right to give the Phillies the lead. Schwarber later scored by tagging up on a Nick Castellanos fly ball to right.
Cristopher Sanchez struggled in his outing, only lasting 4.2 innings. He threw 83 pitches with just 49 of them getting over as strikes. Sanchez allowed three runs on seven hits while matching his season high of allowing three walks.
Max Lazar pitched the bottom of the 11th to record the save.
