Where’s Steve D taking his window cleaner? Find out on this week’s PlayingFTSE Show!
Steve and Steve are talking this week about some of their favourite things. But first, it’s consumption time!
Steve W has been listening to the Barron’s Streetwise Podcast again – with a UK stock recommendation to boot! Steve D is taking a slightly different theme this week, but he’s still got plenty to think about.
After that, we’re talking stocks. Steve D is doing a victory lap as Adyen shares have jumped following an impressive update. But with the stock still 30% lower than it was at the start of the year, should investors be confident or concerned?
Steve W has been paying attention to Berkshire Hathaway’s earnings. The company posted a net loss, with some of its operating units down significantly, but is there more to this than meets the eye?
Then it’s on to Disney – a stock both Steves like. The company seems to be concentrating hard on its bottom line at the moment, so is Bob Iger turning the ship around?
Last, Steve W’s looking at yet another REIT. This one is a UK stock trading at a discount to NAV and focused on… supermarkets…

What’s been going on in Steve D’s bedroom this week? Find out on this week’s PlayingFTSE Podcast!
The Steves are here to talk about Apple’s growth, PayPal’s future, and the earnings from a REIT that Steve D owns. They were also here to talk about Kraft Heinz’s margins and a REIT Steve W likes, but those will have to wait until next week.
In consumption news, Steve D has been listening to someone he disagrees with – Cathie Wood – but has the ARK innovator made any progress on him? Steve W has been listening to Goldman Sachs on the subject of US outperformance, but can that continue going forward from there?
Then it’s on to stocks, starting with Apple. Warren Buffett loves the stock and Steve W owns it in his portfolio, but is a stock trading at a 29 P/E while predicting flat revenue growth for the next quarter really justifiable?
Next, it’s PayPal, with a new CEO who has a lot of ideas for boosting revenues and margins. This should be promising for shareholders, but why does Steve D think that it’s good news for rival Adyen?
After that, it’s Four Corners Property Trust – a REIT that owns restaurants mostly inhabited by Olive Garden and Longhorn Steakhouse outlets. We’ve been looking at a few REITs on the show this year with interest rates on the move, but why does Steve D think this one is particularly interesting?

What does Steve D think of Rory Stewart? Find out on this week’s PlayingFTSE Show!
Steve and Steve are in to talk about a big week in the US stock market. With Alphabet, Amazon, and Meta all reporting earnings, there’s a lot to get through!
In this week’s consumption news, Steve D has been learning about politics with a former Labour politician and a former Conservative MP. Steve W, meanwhile, has been thinking about fancy watches and how ESG might look if it wasn’t such a chaotic mess.
After that it’s on to stocks. The market didn’t much like Alphabet’s slowing cloud growth, but does either Steve think it’s such a small part of the business that Google’s parent company ought not to worry?
Amazon also put up relatively low cloud growth, but a strong showing in advertising services has investors feeling good about life. But would either Steve buy the stock at today’s prices?
Meta Platforms has been showing what happens when revenues grow and costs fall at the same time. Digital advertising is strong, but should investors still be worried about Zuckerberg’s infatuation with the metaverse?
And we’re finishing with Enphase – a growth stock that is doing the opposite of growing. Wall Street wasn’t impressed, but is a huge decline in the company’s share price an opportunity for an investor with a long-term mindset?

Who’s spent the whole week sitting on planes? Find out on this week’s PlayingFTSE Show!
Paul, Steve, and Steve are in this week talking about earnings! We’re looking at Croda from the UK, ASML from the Netherlands, and Tesla from the US.
First, though, it’s the Piper Sandler Teen Survey. Steve D’s been looking at what the 13-18 year olds in the States are spending their money on, but which trends are sticky and which are transitory?
After that, Steve W is making good on his promise to look at Croda International – the worst-performing FTSE 100 stock of the last 12 months. Is it just because they’ve left Hull, or is there something more?
Meanwhile, ASML has been posting some interesting numbers. This one’s been catching Steve D’s eye, but is flat revenue guidance next year ok for a stock trading at 30 times earnings?
And lastly, it’s Tesla. None of our three likes the stock, but Paul is keen to have a go anyway – is there anything to be said for the company after some awful earnings?

What parenting rite of passage has Steve W been through this week? Find out on this week’s PlayingFTSE Show!
This week, Steve and Steve are in to talk about the news. There’s also a stock for Paul even though, in one of the smaller surprises for the week, there’s no Paul.
We’re starting off with what we’ve been consuming. Steve D has been doing the decent thing and listening to people who disagree with him, whereas Steve W’s been taking the easy road and having his own views confirmed.
Then it’s on to the most controversial issue of this week that we dare to talk about – fractional shares. With HMRC asking questions, do either of the Steves have a coherent view to offer on the legitimacy of fractionals in ISAs?
After that, we’re in more familiar territory – Steve W promised a B&M piece last week and he’s finally delivering. Steve D seems impressed, but is it just because they’re headquartered in Hull?
Last, it’s Forterra – the brick manufacturer that both Steves own. Things aren’t going well for the company at the moment, with more factories closing, but is the long-term thesis still intact?

Paul is back this week and there’s a lot to catch up on. He’s got a new tattoo – where is it and what is it of?
It turns out, this week, that all of the PlayingFTSE team have been listening to the same podcast. It’s The Memo, with Howard Marks – but what’s the latest episode about?
After what we’ve been consuming, it’s on to the US consumers. Paul thinks they’re not in good shape, but Steve D has other ideas.
That’s followed by an unscheduled detour into NextEra Energy. Both Steves sold this a while ago and they’re feeling good about themselves right now, but what would cause them to get back in?
And Steve W’s finishing up with a stock for Paul – a UK REIT specialising in houses. The PRS REIT has been buying houses near Steve D, but is a 6% dividend yield enough to tempt Paul out of his bunker?

Whose digestive system went on strike this week? Find out on this week’s PlayingFTSE Show!
It’s the start of Q4 and Steve D and Steve W are in to look at how the year’s been going and what might be in store for the rest of 2023. Plus, they’ve got Nike’s earnings and the answers to some of your questions.
First of all, it’s time for a portfolio review. Steve W has had a quiet three months compared to Steve D, but what have we been buying and selling since July?
Then it’s on to Nike, where things have been tough since pandemic-induced tailwinds have abated. But there’s some optimism around the stock, after a decent earnings report, so is this the opportunity the Steves have been waiting for?
After that, it’s on to Realty Income, which is down 21% since the start of the year. Steve W reviews the case for and against, with a dividend yield approaching 5% and prospects for growth in Europe.
Lastly, there’s a mystery s to look into – how is it possible for a company to be profitable before tax, but not after? The Steves have their thoughts, but they’re still on the lookout for such an elusive business…

Where has Steve D been finishing lately? Find out on this week’s PlayingFTSE Show!
This week, the Steves are talking about investing platforms, bank accounts, acquisitions, and FTSE 100 stocks. There’s a lot to talk about.
First up, though, it’s consumption time. Both Steves have been on the podcast trail this week, so what have they been learning about in their spare time?
After that, it’s on to Webull – the latest source of free shares. Is it a serious contender for Trading212, or is it just a short-term thing for both of the Steves?
Then we’re talking about Nationwide and its 8% interest rate. What does Steve W think this shows about the banking sector and is Steve D about to switch his current account?
Following that, we’re finally getting to some stocks. Growth has been slowing at Halma, according to its latest trading update, but is the sell-off in the stock a buying opportunity for Steve W?
One company that has been getting ready to do some buying is Cisco. The network company is getting ready to buy Splunk – what do the Steves think of the deal and is this the start of a new wave of M&A?
And we’re finishing with Taylor Wimpey. Steve W thinks their dividend policy is interesting and attractive, but Steve D is our construction expert and he’s not so sure…

Who’s been impressing the Steves with “proper cricket shots”? Find out on this week’s PlayingFTSE Podcast!
It’s been an interesting week in the financial world and Steve and Steve are here to talk about the things that have been catching their eye. Things like Arm’s IPO, Adobe’s earnings, and Monzo’s new investment products.
But we’re starting with things we’ve been consuming. Steve W has been diving into the world of banking with an email service he thinks is really helpful and Steve D has been exploring the ethically questionable world of Russian banking… and Chamath.
With that out of the way, we’re looking at Arm’s IPO. It went well, with the stock now up at around $61 and Steve W’s been looking at the chip space, Arm’s prospects, and Softbank’s success.
After that, it’s on to a private investment the Steves both own – Monzo. The challenger bank has launched some investment products and Steve D has the details of which funds are available to customers looking to put some money away for the long term.
And we’re finishing with Adobe. After some strong earnings, the stock seemed to go down, but how much money has Steve D made with this stock… and how much has he left behind?

Who’s wrong so often they should change their name to ‘Steve?’ Find out on this week’s PlayingFTSE Podcast!
Steve and Steve are talking stocks and sports again this week. England might have faded away horribly in the cricket, but our show is still pushing on regardless.
Synthomer was Steve W’s pick for JKR’s competition at the mid-point of the year and it’s been a disaster. But with a rights issue helping to sort the balance sheet, might the company finally be through the worst?
Next it’s UIPath – Romania’s contribution to the S&P 500, which was requested by some of our subscribers. Steve D’s been looking at this and thinks there might be some sneaky upside here to the business with the possibility of an acquisition…
Sticking with the S&P 500, AirBnB is about to become the newest addition to the index. The stock is running up a little bit on the news, but Steve W thinks it might be worth keeping an eye open for a buying opportunity when the stock gets added.
And we’re finishing this week with DocuSign. It’s more than copy and pasting signatures, but is one of Cathie Wood’s favourite stocks down enough to attract either of the Steves?
