We've all heard of emotional eating. 

You know I like to have conversations nobody else is and today's topic is no exception. 

We all have a relationship with the food we eat. And for many, that relationship is somewhat dysfunctional. I'm going to share my own personal journey here with establishing a healthy relationship with food and some suggestions for how to heal the emotional connection to nourishment. 

In this episode we're talking about: 

• Why our relationship with food matters, especially as we lay the foundation for showing up as our best selves in motherhood. 
• Where the relationship between trauma healing and food has its roots, how it's perpetuated in society, and most importantly how to heal. 
• Methods for holistic healing that will allow moms to finally let go of their disordered eating habits and embrace nourishment for their minds, bodies, and spirits. 

I truly hope that this episode allows you to see that you are NOT alone in the connections you've made in your life between your eating habits and your self-worth. It's a universal experience, especially among women. I want you to take away from this episode that there are truly very practical steps you can put into place within your lifestyle that allow you to have a healthy relationship with the way that you provide nourishment for yourself.

Let's talk about the thyroid! It's an unassuming butterfly-shaped gland, tucked away in the neck and it might seem small, but its role in our well-being is monumental. 

There are some serious and alarming rates of postpartum thyroid disorders and dysfunction. 

Up to 23% of new mothers will experience thyroid dysfunction in postpartum, compared to a minimal 3-4% of the rest of the general population! 

In this episode, we're: 

• Pushing back against the conventional medicine belief that thyroid disorders aren't preventable or curable. Further, we'll dive into the physiological origins of thyroid dysfunction as they relate to the hormonal shifts and changes of pregnancy and postpartum. 
• Connecting cortisol (the stress hormone) to thyroid disorders and examining the role the lack of cultural support plays in the epidemic of thyroid disorders in the US. 
• Diving into how women and providers can support the postpartum body nutritionally to facilitate the production of hormones that allow the thyroid to function properly. 

This conversation offers yet another example of the ways in which we are experiencing a maternal health crisis.  

It will encourage you to consider things that need to happen here and how we can look at what's really happening within the body and provide postpartum women with the support and care they deserve.

Creating a community when you don't have one readily available is an empowering and transformative journey. You are not alone in your desire for support and connection during the postpartum period. 

Studies show that being part of a supportive community contributes to increased well-being and self-confidence in postpartum mothers. 

We also know that not all support is created equal. The type of support that enhances your quality of life validates your experiences, provides emotional support, and shares resources. 

If you don't have that type of support readily available to you, it's essential to get creative in surrounding yourself with that type of community.
