The expansion of Brics on 24 October 2024 saw an additional 13 countries invited to participate as ‘partner countries’, allowing them to engage with and benefit from Brics initiatives – including direct trade and access to finance – without having to subordinate themselves to imperialist-controlled institutions such as the World Bank and the IMF.

The IHRA (International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance) definition of anti-semitism is attempts to equate criticism of Israel with criticism of Jews and therefore of anti-semitism. It is a definition that seeks to oppress those who would challenge Israel and its genocide in Gaza by designating them as anti-semites.
Naturally, critique of Israel is not critique of Jews, and any attempt to equate the two is an attempt to equate a religion with an imperialist proxy state.

This move has to be seen as part of a wider attempt by imperialism to outflank the Axis of Resistance.
Protestors in Mogadishu wave Somali and Palestinian flags as they denounce Israel’s announcement recognising the breakaway Somaliland region and call for the territorial unity of Somalia. Meanwhile, no amount of ‘strategic planning’ by the think tank-ocracy can wish away the growing resilience and determination of the various national-liberation forces which collectively form the middle-eastern Axis of Resistance, with Iran and Yemen at its core, and backed by the growing economic might and military prowess of China and Russia.

This week I spoke with Garland Nixon about the war in Iran and what it means not only for Iran but for the wider region and the entire world. What have we learned about the difference in the ways the imperialist and anti-imperialist countries approach war?
We discussed the fact that Iran has for decades held off using its real nuclear option: domination of the Hormuz strait. The fact that is it using it now shows that the war that it knew would eventually be forced upon it has finally arrived. And for Iran it is existential, and the outcomes it is fighting for are non-negotiable.
We compared Iran’s objectives fighting Nato and the Zionist proxies with Russia’s in its fight against Nato and the Banderite proxies, and noted that they are almost the same: removal of military threats against the country; removal of fascist proxies on the doorstep; acceptance of the country’s sovereign right to determine its own affairs in peace; reparations.
Meanwhile, despite a bit of ‘hesitation’ (partly owing to genuine disputes about how to proceed and partly for public consumption), the rest of the imperialist camp is ultimately going all-in on the USA's war against Iran. Because they know that their economic system is on the verge of total meltdown, and war is their only possible salvation. And they also know that they will ultimately stand or fall as one.
Those of us who live in the imperialist countries need to be doing everything possible to organise a real anti-imperialist mass movement here at home. Iran, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen, Russia, the Sahel states, Venezuela, Cuba are all on the front lines of this war, sacrificing their lives in the fight against our common class enemies. We must join them in that fight and work together to deliver the knock-out blow!

The imperialists’ wars are wars of plunder. Their ‘defence’ is the defence of privilege. Their ‘values’ are the values of exploitation.
As the global economic crisis of capitalism deepens, we are seeing a steep rise in both military spending and war propaganda, as our society is militarised and our people prepared to fight in wars to maintain imperialist profit-taking. Hand in hand with rampant inflation and brutal austerity comes also increased scapegoating of immigrants and the promotion of multiple culture-wars divisions amongst the population.

China’s 15th five-year plan illustrates how peoples’ lives can be enriched by combining a planned economy with technological advances in production. The capitalist approach of profit for a tiny minority, on the other hand, results in the immiseration of the vast majority of workers. Automation tools in socialist hands deliver freedom, while in capitalist hands they only cause further hardship.
