Our extreme positivity culture, especially in Western socities, is breeding toxic positivity. You might recognize it in the form of sterotypical blanketed positive comments such as "just be positive" or "you'll get over it; look on the brightside" when telling someone to remain positive no matter how challenging or distressing their situation may be. 

Host Chris Oh dives into our obessession with positive thinking and when and how it becomes toxic and dangerous vs. real positivity. We are living through a time of mental health crisis, even amonst children. Can we rewire our brains to be more empathetic and choose compassion?

Neuroscience tells us that empathy is proven in hard science. But it has also proven that we, humans, have a tendency to be egocentric, which is innate in all of us. Hello, Freud.  And that part of the brain recognizes a lack of empathy.

However, if we can practice self awareness and recognize our triggers to understand if our emotions are coming from an egoic place, we have a choice to choose compassion over anger.
