Devon Brooks was a military brat but grew up mostly in and around Virginia, USA. Thirty years ago, he moved to Berkeley, California for graduate school, which is where he met his husband John. In 1999, Devon and John moved to Los Angeles where they still reside. Devon is a Professor of Social Work and former Associate Dean for Faculty at the University of Southern California. 
Devon and his husband plan to retire in Mexico at least part-time. They have owned a home in Puerto Vallarta for over three years and visit Vallarta as often as they can. 
He understands Spanish better than he can speak it, but he’s working on that.
