I saw an article recently that was talking about how 78% of Americans don't like their jobs, meaning they don’t like to go to work, and a lot of them talk about dreaming about starting a business, but they never actually know how they can go about it, and when they do find out all the hard work and sweat they would have to put it, most of the just back away.
While at a family birthday party the other day, someone approached me and told me about how he would like to leave his 9 to 5 and start a hair and beauty business. But he didn’t know anything about the industry, so I advised him to go out and do some research so he could learn about the business and the industry it’s in before he ever considers starting it. This is critical for anyone who is thinking about starting a business.
In this episode, we will talk about the major differences between dreaming and doing especially where becoming a business owner is concerned. A lot of people believe that when they start a business around what they’re good at, that they are automatically guaranteed of success, but that is so far from the truth, because running a business is about so much more than that. One has to have skills in leadership, marketing, sales, communication, and so many other areas to successfully and sustainably run a business.
And so, before one endeavors into setting up a new business, regardless of whether it’s centered around what they love or not, they must first of all invest in acquiring all those skills and learn everything about the industry they’re going into, so they can be better prepared to hustle and grind no matter what challenges they face to make sure that they succeed in the business. I’m going to share my own experiences with that from the time I started the bakery up until the point where I’m at now, and share all the actionable lessons I learned along the way, so you can apply them in your own entrepreneurial journey.
