  • Cut Your Losses

We just finished a garage sale where we sold everything we had in our storage unit. These were stuff from one of the bakery locations where I was kicked out of the lease. So I sold out all the equipment and other things from the house in the storage unit, which I was paying $830 a month. This stuff was there for two and a half years. The money I spent on the storage fees was way more than the value of the items stored there.

Getting rid of clutter and baggage makes you feel liberated. Holding on to something for many years with the hope of using it in the future is a poverty or scarcity mindset. Overcoming this mindset is key to letting go and giving room for new experiences. Baggage affects us mentally and prevents us from experiencing new things.

Holding on to something impedes your ability to have an abundant lifestyle to build a vision and a future for yourself. Thinking about the future rather than holding on to stuff from the past that currently doesn't have any value cultivates an abundant mindset.

Clearing stuff is not just physical stuff. It includes social circles, friends, relationships that are not working anymore. If they are not bringing any value to you, you have to cut your losses, get rid of them, and move on to experience new amazing things without the baggage.

    Key Takeaways

    • Selling items from our storage unit in a garage sale (03:59)
    • How getting rid of clutter and baggage makes you feel liberated (11:53)
    • Overcoming the scarcity mindset that drives us to hold on to stuff (12:24)
    • Continuing to hold on to something by investing time, energy and space costs you more than the initial investment (16:36)
    • How clearing stuff creates an abundant mindset by thinking about the future  (17:07)
    • Don't hold on to stuff that is just an old version of yourself (22:17)
    • Cutting your losses from a social level to experience new amazing things (26:56)
    • Creating a physical inventory of things that you need to purge from your life (32:34)

  • How To Let Go Of Your Expectations!

We were recently discussing the book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People with our pusher community. In the book, it was suggested that you create everything twice. First in the mind and secondly in the physical world where you bring it to life.

I disagree with the perspective that you create things twice. Life is ever-changing and ever-evolving. It is a process of constant revision. Even after creating something in your mind and bring it to life in the physical world, you are constantly changing it.

Our society is so obsessed with arrival and fruition, forgetting that life is about revisions and evolving. We don’t pay attention to what we are becoming along the way. With every adversity that you overcome, you are adding tools to your belt. You constantly learn along the way. You have to know what you want and then be open to incorporate other people and learn new information so that then you can create something amazing.

    Key Takeaways

    • Creating everything twice first in the mind and then secondly in the physical world (04:09)
    • Life is ever-changing and evolving. It is a process of constant revisions (05:27)
    • There are two states of mind, the creation state and the problem state (07:50)
    • There is no arrival period in life, you are in a constant state of revision (10:27)
    • There's going be speed bumps along the way and then to revise again (12:42)
    • Collecting new information along the journey of life and gaining new perspectives (14:46)
    • Adaptability allows you to create something great (15:35)
    • Focusing on what you are becoming so that you don’t miss things along the way (21:06)
    • Knowing what you want and being open to collaboration and learning (27:00)

  • Random Sh!t With The Copelands (And Jess)

We begin the episode by discussing my current obsession with succulent plants. I have been working in the backyard and have a lot of plants in there. It’s my new hobby. Eddie has been obsessed with history. He has been reading Frederick Douglass’s biography and playing basketball out in the sun.

The next thing we talk about is the weirdest things we have been watching on TV lately. We have followed the Will Smith and Jada story on TV. We were intrigued by how they handled the situation. In marriage, you can go through a rough patch where you have to distance yourself a little bit especially when married for a long time. It is possible to have individual aspirations and retain your identity in a marriage.

We also talk about the Rachel Hollis and Dave Hollis situation and how many of their followers were upset that they were divorcing. People thought they were real and authentic and built a business giving marriage advice and positioning themselves as an example.

Tune in to this episode and hear us talk more about marriage and some other fun random stuff.

  • FRIENDS...How Many Of Us Have Them?

Are you a good friend? If your friends were to rank you on the friendship scale, where would they place you? Meaningful friendships require attention to detail and must be nurtured. If you have very few friends or keep losing friends, this is an opportunity for you to self-reflect. Maybe the reason you don’t have friends is that you are not a good friend yourself.

With the crisis of mental health, healthy relationships are the antidote to problems such as anxiety and depression. Healthy friendships are those that you push each other to grow. If you don’t know how to build new friendships, you can start by stepping out of your comfort zone. Then be curious about other people. This way, they will open up and tell you exciting things about them.

In some instances, you may have to cut off some friends. If the friendship is no longer serving you, you are supposed to outgrow it. You are supposed to meet new people and create new friendships at every season of your life while maintaining those old ones that are still meaningful.

Now more than ever, it is important to reach out to your friends. Even if we cant meet up over dinner due to the pandemic, you can hop on a zoom. Take the opportunity and reach out. Nurture friendships, rekindle old ones, and build new ones.

    Key Takeaways

    • Friendships must be nurtured; you must reach out to friends (04:49)
    • Everybody desires deeper connections and meaningful friendships (07:31)
    • Friendships and meaningful relationships are the antidotes to mental health problems (08:17)
    • Instances where you might have to cut off some friends (16:07)
    • outgrowing old friendships and meeting new people who bring out different things in you (18:29)
    • Cherishing friends you share a special connection with (23:07)
    • Is the reason you don’t have meaningful relationships because you are not a good friend yourself (26:19)
    • How Janelle is good at finding and building new friendships (27:38)
    • Why it is more important to reach out to your friends during this pandemic (28:39)
    • Stepping out of your comfort zone to meet new people (29:53)

  • Thinking BIGGER! How To Place Your Order

The universe is like going to a restaurant and placing an order. When you place an order at a restaurant, you expect to get exactly what you ordered. The exact same thing happens with the universe. You get what you ordered whether you did it consciously or subconsciously. The universe conspires to give you what you want.

In this episode, I want to encourage you to create your order. What do you want with your life, your career, your relationships, your business, your kids? Start writing it down. Place your order and the universe will conspire to give you what you want. That’s why putting down your goals in writing is very important.

Focus on the what rather than the how. Many times, we focus on the how which makes it seem impossible. Start by thinking big enough on the what without worrying about the how. Be very specific about what you want. Most of us grew up without being asked what we wanted but rather taking what’s available. Create what you want with your imagination then ultimately, you will move in that direction.

    Key Takeaways

    • How someone I just me over breakfast made me uncomfortable and changed my perspective about thinking big in life (02:18)
    • Being very specific about what you want (15:19)
    • Life is about placing your order, if you don’t, you get nothing (21:08)
    • How the universe manifested on exactly what I ordered (25:14)
    • Being in a conscious state of awareness of what you want (34:00)
    • Focusing on what you want puts you into a higher level of thinking (37:50)
    • Getting out of your comfort zone to get a different perspective (39:10)

  • Why Am I So Damn DEMOTIVATED?

We have been feeling demotivated lately. The COVID situation and quarantine has led to many changes and a disruption of our normal routines. We have pivoted a lot during this period. Every day something new is happening and we got to the point where we are not planning anything including in areas around our health and fitness. I reached out to a few of my trusted friends and they are in the same situation.

This realization led to my AHA moment. With half of 2020 gone, we still have the other half to set and achieve some goals. The goals maybe 30-day or 90-day sprints. To achieve these goals, we need restrictive behaviors that call for commitment, dedication, discipline, and focus.

We are going to activate our intrinsic power to create change by changing our choices. Creating restrictions and practicing discipline is mindfulness and mindfulness leads to wellness. It's time to get mindful!

This is especially important in the areas around health, finances, and time. Then it is all about remaining disciplined to the restrictions. So if you feel stuck and demotivated, the key to getting moving again is to set a goal that inspires you, then have some restrictions that you are happy to make.

    Key Takeaways

    • How slipping out of our routine has affected our motivation (14:09)
    • The psychology behind our habits and choices on our health, food, and fitness (18:52)
    • Having purpose and intention to drive your goals around fitness and health (28:08)
    • Being graceful of our current circumstances, but not making excuses for our habits (29:35)
    • Goal setting for the remaining period of the year (31:33)
    • Why restrictive behaviors are necessary to achieve your goals (32:38)
    • Setting restrictive guidelines around your health, finances and time (35:51)
    • Setting goals that inspire you and restrictions you are happy to make (40:19)
    • Plotting and tracking your progress towards your goal (44:53)

  • She Called Eddie The N-Word!!!

Right now, there is so much going on in America. It is all centered around race. Due to our family’s history, we want to use our voice and platform to help educate people and share perspectives and experiences around race relations.

The stance we have taken as a family is that we are going to educate people, inspire them, and let them get to the point they change their perspective. It is hard work and emotionally draining but it is important and necessary to do it. Educating people and sharing with them your experiences as a black person may help them realize their white biases and appreciate what other people go through every day.

We share one experience we had where one customer used the N-word on Eddie. We had to talk to our children about the reality of the world we live in, what they might face out there. Parents must have these uncomfortable conversations with their children.

Listen to this episode and get to learn more about our experiences and our perspectives on race.

    Key Takeaways

    • How our household has looked like in the past few days (02:04)
    • Why black people need to educate white people on how they have been oppressed (02:31)
    • My family making me proud and the stance we have taken as a family (05:19)
    • Sacrifice needed from the white majority to achieve equality (11:12)
    • Liberating your mind from white biases and racist thoughts and swallowing white privilege (19:17)
    • How one of our customers called Eddie the N-word and why parents need to have uncomfortable conversions about the reality (20:58)
    • How Jasmine and Kaylah struggled through high school with the N-word
    • Why this is a learning moment for people to understand different perspectives and any biases they may have (31:14)
