Real Crime Profile

Laura, Jim and Lisa continue their interview with Naomi Gibson to hear her first hand account of what it was like inside the NXIVM cult. Naomi talks about being recruited by film maker Mark Vicente, who relentlessly pursued her to join “Jness” an offshoot of NXIVM. Naomi describes the celebrities and high powered people who were in the “Jness” circle, which added to the lure of the group.

You can also see Naomi in the STARZ documentary series “Seduced: Inside the NXVIM Cult”.

Laura, Jim and Lisa interview Naomi Gibson to hear her first hand account of what it was like inside the NXIVM cult. But Naomi’s story does not start with NXIVM.

She survived being born into and growing up in the infamous and horrific “Children of God” aka “The Family International” cult — one that demanded the sexual enslavement of women through "Flirty Fishing" and promoted child sex abuse among its thousands of followers worldwide.

This background context is crucial to understand.

You won’t want to miss Naomi telling us how she connected the dots and red flags between “Children of God” and NXVIM.

You can also see Naomi in the STARZ documentary series “Seduced: Inside the NXVIM Cult”.

Jim Clemente and Lisa Zambetti jump on for a bonus episode discussing the Nashville Christmas Day bombing. Jim breaks down what he thinks the motivations of the offender were and Lisa asks about significances of the date and other aspects of the crime. Our conversation goes down some interesting roads when we begin to talk about the offender's possible paranoia, leading us to delve into conspiracy theories and misinformation plaguing our communities today. We will NOT name this offender, and we WILL call this out for what it is....Domestic Terrorism. Our hearts go out to the people of Nashville who had such a joyous day so cruelly disrupted. We especially want to shout out the brave police officers who saved lives that day:

Laura and Jim sit down with filmmakers Cecilia Peck (Director and Showrunner) and Inbal B. Lessner (Executive Producer, Writer and Editor), of the incredible STARZ doc-series “Seduced: Inside the Nxivm Cult”. Laura and Jim talk about the red flags they saw right away with this dangerous so-called “self help group” which slowly indoctrinated, groomed and coercively controlled its members. Cecilia and Inbal were able to get special access to Catherine Oxenberg and her daughter India for this series. India spent seven years inside the Nxivm cult before her mother was able to get the media and law enforcement to bring it and its leader down.

We continue our conversation with Jan Broberg, whose story of child sexual abuse and kidnapping at the hands of a close family friend is told in the Netflix documentary “Abducted in Plain Sight”. Laura and Jim explore how this offender was allowed to continue to target young girls even after he was caught. Lisa wonders if this offender is different from others we have covered in that he took Jan away from their community to another country rather than hiding in plan sight.
