I did an episode last year talking about the Internal Locus of Control.  I had never heard of this concept before.  I had never heard of that term “Internal Locus of Control” until I read about it in a book by Charles Duhigg, called Smarter, Faster, Better.

The opposite of that is an “External Locus of Control”….these are people that have a weak Internal Locus of Control…they blame the surroundings around them, they blame the things that they have no control over.  They give credit to the things that “happen” to them to everything and everyone else, around them.

I know…. It seems so obvious doesn’t it. I know this is not “breaking news”. Let’s talk about you…lets talk about the People who are licensed Professionals…stick with me here. There are a lot of people out there in Real Estate right now that are terrified of people. There are many people that get into the Real Estate business, if asked, will say that they got into Real Estate because they love people. Some people get into real estate because they know a lot of people. They, then realize that in order to succeed they need to meet more people and expand that circle. Its unavoidable. There are big personalities and more timid personalities in Real Estate…there are extroverts and introverts both who do well in Real Estate. I have always said this. Every single personality type variation that is out there can make a great living at Real Estate. Do you agree with me? Or is this new news for you? Does that give you hope?

A Successful Real Estate Professional Builds Relationships…I am excited to talk about this subject matter because it is such a “game changer” in our business. In our Real Estate world. Not all businesses get to enjoy this option. Businesses that sell a service or a widget…don’t get to create relationships with their customers. With the rise of the “box store” “warehouse” model it is less personal now. But we think we are getting a better deal so we shop there. Do you remember going into businesses and they knew your name? Do you remember when they asked you about your family? There was a bit of relationship there…the opportunity for that is getting more and more minimized. Now with the uptick in online shopping – which I love by the way, the opportunity for any type of relationship building is eliminated totally. That’s the Retail business world.

But that is not so in Real Estate.

This is one of the 9 keys that I believe that you need to be…not do….and that is to be Consistent.  Consistency is so important for all areas of your life.  Are you a person that is consistent?  Can people count on that?  I don’t necessarily mean being a person who has a regimented routine…it can be good but I would admit that, that is really tough in the Real Estate business.  This business can take us in many directions sometimes.  I get it.  I know that. Here is a quote from Robert Collier – “Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day-in and day-out.”

There is never a “quick get rich” scenario involved.  There are a few stories out there where you hear about that but that is 1% of the 1% of the population…The reason you hear about it is because it is so rare and extraordinary.

Today we are going to chat with Chastin Miles. We are going to learn about his story before he started recording the story of his journey in Real Estate. He is an author. A Team Leader. A highly recognized agent in his marketplace but he began from very humble beginnings.
