The Red Sox (30-35) opened up their 3-game weekend series against the Yankees with a (9-6) loss Friday night at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees scored 7 runs (all with 2 outs) over the 1st 2 Innings. The Red Sox have lost 9 of their last 12 overall and 8 of their last 10 on the road.

Brutal in the 1st: Walker Buehler gave up 5 runs, all with 2 outs, in the 1st Inning against the Yankees Friday night. He gave up a 3-run Home Run to Jazz Chisholm Jr. and a 2-run Home Run to Anthony Volpe.  Red Sox starting pitchers (Fitts, Giolito, & Buehler) have allowed 15 1st-Inning runs over the last 4 Games. Buehler gave up 2 more 2-out runs in the 2nd Inning.  Buehler lasted only 2 innings, gave up 7 runs (5 ER) and took the loss.

Mayer Goes Yard- Marcelo Mayer led off the 5th Inning against Will Warren with his 1st Big League Home Run.  Mayer's Home Run was 103.3 off the bat, went 410' into the seats in right-center field and would have been out of every ballpark except Oracle Park in San Francisco. Rafael Devers also went deep with a 2-run shot in the 7th Inning. It's Devers 13th of the season and 17th career Home Run at Yankee Stadium.

#'s of the Night: The Red Sox are now 8-10 vs. AL East teams. Garrett Crochet starts for the Red Sox in Game 2 of the Series Saturday night. It'll be the 10th time this season where Crochet makes a start after a Red Sox loss. Red Sox starting pitchers have 1 winning decision over the last 23 games.
