The Red Sox (38-36) opened up their longest road trip of the season with a 2-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners Monday night at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.  It's the Red Sox 2nd straight shutout win and 6th on the season. The Sox have won 6 in a row, 8 of 9 and 9 of 11.  Aroldis Chapman struck out the side in the 9th to preserve the shutout and notch his 13th save of the season.

Going with Gio: Lucas Giolito made the mound start in the series opener against the Mariners Monday night and he picked up his 3rd win of the season with 6 scoreless innings. Giolito finished up by retiring the final 12 hitters that he faced. He gave up 3 straight singles in the 3rd Inning and then came back and struck out the next 3 hitters. He turned in his 5th outing this season where he allowed 0 or 1 runs.

1st for Roman: Roman Anthony got the Red Sox on the board with a 2-out, solo Home Run off Logan Gilbert in the 1st Inning. It's his 1st in the Big Leagues. The Red Sox have hit 18 Home Runs in 14 Games during the month of June.

#'s of the Night:  Giolito's 10 strikeouts were a season-high and it's also the 4th time that a Red Sox starter struck out 10 or more in a game. The other 3 all came from Garrett Crochet. Over the last 9 outings, Red Sox starting pitchers have compiled the following #'s. 57.2 IP. 38 Hits. 17 R. 17 ER. 5 HR. 12 BB.  56 K. Red Sox starters are 7-1 with 1 No Decision over the last 9 Games.  The Red Sox are now 6-8 vs. AL West teams.

Adding to the Pen: The Red Sox pulled off a trade with the Twins last Wednesday, acquiring reliever Jorge Alcala in exchange for minor league infielder Andy Lugo.  Alcala still has not made his Red Sox debut. Lugo was playing for Advanced-A Greenville this season. Alcala, 29, has pitched in relief throughout his 7 seasons in the Big Leagues, all with the Twins.  Brian Van Belle was designated for assignment after he was added to both the 40-man and active rosters on Tuesday. The Red Sox traded Van Belle to the Reds for cash considerations on Saturday and he was optioned to Triple-A.

What's On Tap?: The Red Sox continue their series with the Mariners Tuesday night in Seattle. Walker Buehler is slated for oppose Bryan Woo.  The Red Sox and Mariners conclude their series Wednesday afternoon.  After an off day on Thursday, the Red Sox open up a 3-game series against Rafael Devers and the Giants Friday night in San Francisco.  The longest road trip of the season wraps with 3 in Anaheim against the Angels.
