As we age, many of us feel invisible and diminished… whether in a restaurant, at our job, or in a store. Our guest, Paula Usery, says that too many of us internalize these feelings of aging while what we should be doing is feeling stronger and empowered. Being ignored and invisible is one of the most common complaints of people over fifty.
We live in a culture where people tend to push older adults to the sidelines. Yet we have more power than many realize. We can use our individual and collective voices as a way to enact positive changes in our culture. We have the power to recognize and address ageist behaviors. And we have the power to define ourselves and our purpose in life. Paula’s book, Refusing to Be Invisible, and our conversation, will help us all to be seen.
