Few people realize that Joseph Smith was studying with a Kabbalah scholar in the months before his death and had become fascinated with the idea of reincarnation. Ron explains this emerging concept of multiple mortalities and plural probations that the prophet only shared with his inner circle.

Had he lived, these Kabbalistic teachings might have ended up as mainstream LDS doctrine. Who knows. We definitely know that the more fringe followers of Mormonism like Chad and Lori Daybell were deeply interested in these obscure Mormon concepts or past lives and reincarnation.
