It's been over 3 months since the last episode of Rev Rest. So what the heck have I been up to? Spoiler Alert: I'm pregnant! But that's only part of the story...
In today's episode, I talk about how I practiced deep rest this summer while navigating a sea of intensity. How at times, I forgot to rest and pushed too hard, and what I learned in the process. Also, what NOT producing the podcast brought up for me - from the guilt to learning to gratitude - and how this relates to the natural seasonality of creativity and output.
Plus, with baby on the way this November, a look at what's to come for Rev Rest. Enjoy!

Caitlin Dafni:
She had put together all the ingredients of a "happy life" - a beautiful family, home and career. Standing in the middle of it all, Mary realized how sad she actually felt. The discovery and practice of a powerful tool helped infuse her life with more intention and meaning.
Then, just as her last kiddo was leaving the nest and Mary was rekindling her marriage, tragedy struck. Mary was asked to accept an entirely new, painful, challenging and beautiful reality that she never saw coming.
In our conversation Mary reflects on her relationship to rest during her early years of mothering; how much it has changed since being asked to mother again; and why she now practices deep, solitary rest on a regular basis.

How does our need for rest change with the changing seasons of our lives? In this episode, Caitlin talks about the metaphorical winters of our lives, why they can be so tough, and how to skillfully navigate their inevitable arrival. Caitlin talks about the hardest, longest winter she's ever experienced, what happened when she tried to ignore the waves of grief, and finally her surrender to the wintering she was in.

In this episode and the next, Caitlin explores the rhythms of rest - How our needs for rest can vary quite a bit based on our individual constitution, and how our needs for rest are in tune with the seasonal rhythms of nature. Caitlin highlights the season of winter, a period to hibernate and rejuvenate, a time to go inward and develop our inner resources.

In this first episode, Caitlin explains why resting is one of the most seditious things we can do in this culture, and how that is especially true for women. Plus, some fun facts about lions!
*Please note that when Caitlin talks about "culture" in this episode, she is referring to the mainstream, capitalist culture of the United States. Inherent in many cultures around the world are healthy rhythms for rest and play, work and leisure. Those natural rhythms have largely been neglected and pushed aside in the U.S. in favor of fueling the economic powers that be.
