  • RHLSTP Book Club 73 - Lou Sanders

Book Club #73 - What's That Lady Doing? - It’s another live Book Club, this time recorded at the Leicester Square Theatre with comedian and ice skater Lou Sanders. They talk about why the time was right for Lou to detail the funny (and occasionally shocking and sad) escapades from her life, why it’s tricky to write about family and how to get the balance right, why shame is universal and needs to be embraced and accepted in order to move on, how most people are plagued by self-doubt even if they don’t look like they are, what Andi Peters did to deserve limited retribution, whether being touched inappropriately by a masseuse is cheating and whether there is more to the Universe than what we can see and if all of us believe in stuff that might not be real in order to get us through life.

  • RHLSTP 476 - Peter Richardson

#476 The Mike That Never Was - Richard is back in the witch-burning city of Exeter and this time his guest is Comic Strip Presents legend Peter Richardson. They talk about how Peter meet Nigel Planer and invented the character of Neil, the early days of the Comic Strip in Raymonds Revue Bar, why it was a good thing that he didn’t end up playing Mike in the Young Ones (though he might well be wrong about that), how he shocked Steve Martin, getting bottles of piss thrown at him by Heavy Metal fans at Donnington, his instrumental part in Stella Street and why the Comic Strip Presents about Boris Johnson never saw the light of day. Plus the lackadaisical attitudes to Health and Safety that saw him confronted by the police outside Buckingham Palace. An incredible delve into an amazing time for comedy! AND the Keith Allen question is posed.

  • Retro RHLSTP 65 - Peter Serafinowicz

RETRO RHLSTP #65 - Brian Blessed and the Big Foot

It’s the final episode of series 10 of RHLSTP and Rich meets a bearded man who has managed to find a partner (find out how he did it nerds). His guest is the laid-back and yet also intense (and rather beautiful) Peter Serafinowicz.

They talk about how it’s almost impossible to parody the new President of the United States, but the effective way that Peter managed it and his fears and plans should there be repercussions from the thin-skinned bellend.

Also lots of chats about the two Brian Bs (Blessed and Butterfield) and how a stellar cast does not always lead to a commission. Plus behind the scenes at Guardians of the Galaxy and Parks and Recreation and the Pudsey the Dog movie. Incredibly Adam Sandler’s “The Cobbler” and the strange ego of Mr Tumble come up without Richard even mentioning them.

  • RHLSTP Book Club 72 - Geoff Norcott

Book Club #72 - The British Bloke, Decoded - Rich welcomes back comedian Geoff Norcott to talk about his new book about UK masculinity, The British Bloke, Decoded. Is it possible to generalise about a whole sex? And more importantly is it funny? Is size important (both penis and height in general)? Can you beat a chimp in hand to hand combat? Are women as deluded about their tennis skills as men? Why don’t men check their junk more regularly? Under what circumstances is it OK for men to cry? Rich is happy to hear a new (to him) euphemism for a scared penis and they discuss the surprising crossovers with Caitlin Moran’s latest book, which give Geoff a good idea for his next one.

  • RHLSTP 475 - Spencer Jones

#475 France’s Youngest Shepherd - Richard has come to Exeter, where there is some very bad news about the bins. His guest is amazing actor and comedy genius Spencer Jones. They talk about how a last minute self-tape got him a recurring role in Ted Lasso, where Death in Paradise meets Milton, how his first double act led to him losing his virginity and then his bottle, the extraordinary sequence of events that led to his first TV show, whether finger-wagging admonishment might make the bad guys of history reconsider their actions, whether moving back to Devon was a good idea, the importance of how you look walking on to stage, the electric heat of creating comedy on stage and how he came up with the character of the Herbert and whether there has been any reaction to Upstart Crow from Ricky Gervais.

  • Retro RHLSTP 64- Sarah Kendall

RETRO RHLSTP #64 - Sarah Kendall - Richard is amazed how a joke on Twitter now pretty much always gets taken at face value by someone, even if it's in an open letter to an 8 month-old baby. His guest is Nicole Kidman impersonator and fantastically thoughtful yet and puerile stand-up Sarah Kendall, fresh from her nomination for the big comedy award at the Fringe. They discuss the horrors of child birth, the redundancy of the hand job, growing up in New Newcastle, how audiences can sometimes laugh in the wrong way, the plot holes in Back To The Future, loads of stuff about cocks and vaginas (obviously), the inevitability of nuclear destruction, plus some surprisingly serious bits about the nature of being a stand-up. To be honest, most of the time we forgot that we weren't sitting in the lounge in our Edinburgh flat having the kind of conversations with one another that are totally unacceptable in the actual world. She's the best. Go and see her perform live. You're welcome.

  • RHLSTP Book Club 71 - Joe Wilkinson

Book Club #71 - My (Illustrated) Autobiography - It’s another live Book Club from the Leicester Square Theatre with Joe Wilkinson talking about his groundbreaking book My Autobiography - illustrated by the brilliant Henry Paker. Though the chat is mainly an attempt to discover Joe’s true life story rather than the fictitious one involving scrumping and bus timetables. They chat about daily podcasting, the Pleasance Sold Out Board and great shows that nobody saw, working with Bobby Ball and a record breaking fart, amongst many other things.

The book is fabulous, buy it here https://linktr.ee/joewilkinsonbook

  • RHLSTP 474 - Matt Green

#474 Very Bad Lieutenant - Richard is back in Winchester for another week and they are having so much trouble with their clocks (I said clocks). His guest is stand up and actor and internet sensation Matt Green. They chat about working with Idris Elba and Sacha Baron-Cohen, what it’s like sitting in a car for six hours with Harvey Keitel, playing a corpse in the Cambridge Footlights, the perils of being a boyish boy, a drive-by egging, how a tweet about Brexit led to a discussion about supermarkets and Rich had a few ideas on how to improve the Direct Line adverts. Plus the introduction of the tofu hand and Rich attempts some rapping to mixed results.

  • RHLSTP Book Club 70 - Tim Key

RHLSTP Book Club 70 - Chapters - Richard is joined by a man who Steve Coogan finds funny, but doesn’t know why, to talk about his latest anthology of poetry - Chapters. Richard expresses his distrust of poetry and fails to remember any of the stuff he’s read and Tim explains why he self-publishes, his collaboration with designer Emily Juniper and how much truth and beauty there is in his work. He reads a couple of poems, explains why the book has this title it has and reveals if he’s ever had a sporting dream or not. Plus a new episode of timkey the monkey and chat about making films, cancer and why he is not as respected a figure (by Rich at least) as Davina McCall.

  • RHLSTP Emergency Questions 6

Ham Hand versus Suncream Armpit - It’s another compilation of favourite answers to classic EQs and this one has a star-studded cast of funny people musing over whether they want pig meat digits or a protective layer of screening shooting out their armpit nozzl, including Adam Buxton, Sue Perkins, Mr and Mrs Coren-Mitchell and Rebecca Front. Which would you choose? (rhetorical)
