Claude is the recipient of the Silver Medal, the Gold Medal, and in 2021 was the recipient of one of the American Rose Society’s highest honors, the Klima Award for excellence in the field of horticulture education concerning roses. 

Living out his lifelong rose passion, Claude is considered one of the leading authorities on rambler roses and has traveled the world to learn more about them. When Anne Belovich was nearing the end of her life, she asked Claude if he could help ensure her extensive rambler collection would be secure. She chose well. These magnificent giants are in good hands. Today, we learn more about the Save the Rambler Project, get an update on how things are going, and find out what’s next.

New Garden / New Rules

On this episode of the Rose Chat Podcast, host Teresa Byington welcomes Dr. Malcolm Manners, recently retired Professor of Horticultural Science at Florida Southern College. During his academic career, Dr. Manners specialized in fruit production, roses, and propagation techniques for a wide range of crops. In 2013, he was honored with the “Great Rosarian of the World” award in recognition of his long-standing work on rose mosaic virus disease and his contributions as an educator in rose culture.

Since retiring, Dr. Manners has relocated from Florida to the Midwest, where he is now establishing a new garden in a climate and environment very different from the one he left behind.

In this episode, we check in with Dr. Manners to hear how the transition is going, what he’s learning in this new gardening setting and what he’s doing differently.
