How’s your trust in new things? I recently made the commitment to switch to 80/20 running which come without a timeline. This requires me to strengthen my trust muscle and trust the process.
“Stine teaches women runners how to have their own back by showing them how to notice their limiting thoughts, the ones that have been unconsciously running their lives and kept them stuck. Kept them from really enjoying their runs - their lives. Because that’s what she taught herself. “

Melody Bateman is a runner, an ultra runner and a run coach. A couple of years ago, I interviewed her for her ultra running story (episode 9) but today, I'm talking with her to learn more and to share with you listeners all about building a solid foundation for your running. Listen in as Melody and I discuss heart rate running/ zone 2 running.
I bring up all my own ‘fears/ worries’ as I transition to zone 2 running myself and chances are you’re feeling what I’m going through too - so tune in!
We talk about the importance of easy running w/ hard efforts sprinkled in versus zone 3 running - AKA the ‘black hole’ of many runners. If you’re not already convinced of the importance of zone 2 running, if you’re new to zone 2 running you’re going to want to listen to this episode (I bet even if you’ve been at 80/20 running for a while, you’ll still enjoy this episode).

Today’s episode is an interview with a fellow woman runner. Lisa turned 50 a couple of years ago and we chat about this chapter of our life and what it means to us. She is a run coach who loves coaching women to love running and celebrate finish lines they never thought possible. She is a distance runner and has covered ‘all’ the distances: 50K, 50 miles, 100K, 100 miles.

Right now you might use running as a punishment for food you’ve eaten. I was taught that exercise is necessary to burn off calories so I could eat more or shrink my body. Were you taught this too? The diet industry wants us to believe this. With this outlook, running becomes the vehicle for something ‘negative’ ie. burning calories. It's very hard to create joy from running when our reason for doing it is negative in the first place. What if you could run and do exercise simply because you like it. Because it makes you feel good?

Today I’m talking about my journey into heart rate training and the two main reasons for pursuing it: improved performance and better health. Switching to zone 2 running is appealing thanks to tag lines like “go slow to become faster’. For many runners having to run slow, often much slower can be a cause of anxiety for runners. Listen in as I share how to manage these thoughts so you don’t have to hate zone 2 running or give up on it.

“Negative self-talk is any inner dialogue you have with yourself that may be limiting your ability to believe in yourself and your own abilities, and to reach your potential. So negative self-talk can not only be stressful, but it can really stunt your success.”(Verywellmind.com)

How would believing ‘I’m enough’ relieve internal pressure and help open you up to new possibilities? Today’s episode is a ‘reflection from a runner’ type episode. It came to me on a run which is a time when I often process things and am open to inspiration. I’d love to know your thoughts.
