Donna Marie Joseph was with her birth mother for a few months before she was taken and adopted by wonderful parents that loved and raised her as their own. The only problem was, Donna was a mixed race child and her parents were both white. Donna discusses how this affected her growing up, and how even though she was raised in a loving household that hosted many foster children, she felt alone. 

At the age of 12, Donna felt the primal urge to see a picture of her birthmother and this lead to the start of many revelations and self discovery for her. It also ultimately lead to her leaving home, and finding herself in an abusive relationship. How did she start to find her way back to herself?
