In this episode we get a glimpse of what a therapist sees when an adoptee or foster child needs counseling. Carina Kay Phillips is a licensed social worker (LSW), who has worked as a therapist helping children, some of whom were affected by adoption and the foster system. What is working? What types of therapy gets results, and what needs to be looked at and modified? Carina also shares her story of reunion with her father after 18 years.
Carina has attained her bachelor's and master's degree in social work from the University of Southern Indiana and is in the process of taking her test to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. (LCSW) She has worked in a private school with students with severe autism, a domestic violence/homeless shelter and was a home based therapist serving clients with active DCS cases where she provided therapy in the client's homes. She now works as a private contractor in an office setting providing trauma focused therapy to anyone in need.
If you or someone you know would like to tell their adoption story on the podcast (anyone in the adoptee constellation), please send an email to [email protected], and your story will be considered for the podcast.
