The Worst Girl Gang Ever

S8 E28 | Recurrent Miscarriages, First Trimester Losses, and Validating Your Emotions

Listen Later

In this week's episode of The Worst Girl Gang Ever, Bex and Laura chat with community member April. She shares her heartbreaking journey through three consecutive miscarriages before finally conceiving through IVF and giving birth to a baby boy. She discusses the emotional toll of the losses, the importance of seeking support, and the challenges of parenting after such a difficult path to motherhood.

April explains the shock, embarrassment, debilitating anxiety and panic attacks she experienced following her miscarriage. Through the support of her manager and GP, she came to understand that she was grieving and sought out group therapy and journaling to process her emotions.

The gang also discusses feeling bitter towards those who appear to be “luckier” than you, and the importance of having a space to explore these emotions safely.

In this episode, you'll discover:

  • Why it took April so long to recognise the issues her and her partner were having
  • How they eventually overcame their fertility struggles
  • The importance of finding community
  • The value of having a space to express your negative emotions
  • Why not all the memories of unsuccessful pregnancies are negative
