Happy Satiated Saturday!
In the process of writing my book on Somatic Eating™, I interviewed my mom about my food habits growing up. I was quite a "picky" eater. While plenty of different foods were offered to me, my favorite thing was peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and buttered noodles. It's funny to reflect on this because as an adult, I have more of the philosophy of I'll try anything once.
I have worked with a lot of parents over the years that are just trying to do the best they can to feed their children and it can be confusing! Allow sugar or don't allow sugar? Force them to eat their vegetables? Rules around dessert? Your kid's relationship with food can be a strong mirror back to you and reflect back everything you might be working on in your relationship with your food and body as well.
In this week’s episode, I loved my conversation with Nicole Cruz, Registered Dietitian specializing in disordered eating and family feeding, about food freedom foundations for you and your kids, how to navigate sugar with kids (and for yourself), and looking inside self when you have reactions around your kid's (or anyone's) food behaviors. Even if you don't have kids, you were once a kid and listening to this episode can raise awareness around what you potentially grew up with that affected your relationship with food and begin to support your inner child in new ways.

As a reminder, never forget that you have always been doing the best you can to take care of you and your family. Take some time today to acknowledge yourself for one small thing that you have done to show up for you or your significant others or your kids.
