It's time to get real about the root of self-care and how our self-care practices seep into all aspects of our lives.
Today I am joined by Tamika Lewis, a cognitive behavioral therapist and founder of WOC therapy. Tamika shares the importance of self-care and valuable questions to ask yourself to begin your self-care journey no matter where you are in your personal growth journey.
Tamika explains how our ideas of self-care originated with our mothers. And the way they gave themselves permission to step out of the many roles that they play, give themselves space to breathe and give themselves time to be women.
I grew up with a very overworked mother who was successful at the expense of her presence, attention, energy, and time. I am so grateful for her, but the patterns she taught me about self-care do not have to be the patterns I continue in my own life. Just as the patterns from your family do not have to be the way your self-care practices continue to go.
Tamika explains the 4 steps to building a positive self-care system for yourself, that is sustainable and digs deep into the root of why you treat yourself the way you do.
If your self-care is non-existent or you are always feeling overwhelmed, overworked, or having a rough time in relationships of any type— then this episode is for you. Tamika is a powerhouse of relationship knowledge in every sense of the phrase. It’s time to put in the work, to invest in yourself and overcome those mental health obstacles because you are worth it!
