Under Australia's preferential voting system, voters can rank the candidates for both Houses of Parliament from most-preferred to least-preferred. Counting the ballots is a process of elimination based on the preferences until one candidate secures an absolute majority - which can trigger complex "preference deals" between parties and candidates in the lead-up to voting day.

The event was a part of Begonia Festival which is organized by City of Ballarat every year since 1953. This 3-day festival aims to promote richness of multiculturalism in Ballarat City. অস্ট্রেলিয়ায় বসবাসরত বিভিন্ন কমিউনিটির বয়স্ক ব্যক্তিদেরকে কম্পিউটার ব্যবহার শেখাতে এথনিক কমিউনিটিস কাউন্সিল (এসিসি) নিউ সাউথ ওয়েলস বেশ কয়েক বছর ধরে কাজ করছে। প্রতিটি কাউন্সিল লাইব্রেরিতে তারা বিনামূল্যে ‘টেক স্যাভি সিনিয়রস’ নামে এই প্রশিক্ষণ ক্লাসের আয়োজন করে থাকে। এবারই প্রথম বাংলাভাষীদের জন্য এই প্রশিক্ষণ চালু করা হচ্ছে ব্লাকটাউন লাইব্রেরিতে। প্রশিক্ষক সামিরা হাবিব কথা বলেছেন এসবিএস বাংলার সঙ্গে।
