The gold rushes in the second half of the 19th century completely changed the face of Australia. It changed the convict colonies into more progressive cities. However, it impaced on the under paid workers. Geetha Mathivanan explains the stories and history behind the gold rush in “Namma Australia”.

A Productivity Commission investigation into the superannuation system has found one in three accounts, or about 10 million, are unintended multiple accounts.

It finds they cost their owners a total of $2.6 billion every year in extra fees and insurance charges.

The report has recommended sweeping changes, where workers would be steered towards an approved list of 10 default providers picked by an expert panel.

Superannuation எனப்படும் ஓய்வூதியக் கணக்கு குறித்து, Productivity Commission நடத்திய விசாரணையில், மூன்று கணக்குகளில் ஒரு கணக்கு தேவையில்லாத பல கணக்குகளில் ஒன்று எனவும் அவற்றின் மொத்த தொகை 10 மில்லியன் டொலர்கள் என்றும் கண்டுபிடித்துள்ளது.

இதனால், இப்படியான கணக்கை வைத்திருப்பவர்கள் மொத்தம் 2.6 பில்லியன் டொலர்களை தேவையில்லாமல் கூடுதல் கட்டணங்களாகவும், காப்பீட்டு தொகையாகவும் செலவிட்டு வருகிறார்கள்.

இந்த விசாரணையின் முடிவில், பல மாற்றங்கள் பரிந்துரைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.  அவற்றில் ஒன்று, நிபுணர் குழுவால் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்ட Superannuation சேவை வழங்கும் 10 வழங்கும் நிறுவனங்களின் பெயர்கள் தொழிலாளர்களுக்கு வழங்கப்பட்டு, அவற்றில் ஒன்றைத் தெரிவு செய்யும்படி கேட்கப்படுவார்கள்.

The Tamil Nadu government ordered the closure of the Sterlite Copper factory in Thoothukudi which is at the centre of a violent agitation led by residents who claim the smelter has caused widespread pollution of air and water in the region. Some political leaders in Tamil Nadu allege that the Tamil Nadu government had not provided adequate evidence to suggest that the recently announced shutdown of the Sterlite Copper plant in Thoothukudi was permanent and final. The Assistant Minister for Children and Families says he is considering a new program to help skilled refugees get re-qualified for jobs in Australia.

David Gillespie's remarks come as a number of Coalition MPs are suggesting changes to employment visas to prevent migrants and refugees sponsored by regional employers from leaving later for metropolitan areas.
