The concept of brain lateralization in psychology describes the relationship between right-brain function and left-brain function. Neuropsychologist Roger Sperry developed the concept after winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 1981. Sperry demonstrated that the right and left sides of the brain are responsible for different types of thinking. It is possible to alter suggestibility through hypnotherapy or ideomotor desensitization, but we are prone to returning to literal thinking in everyday life.
Individuals who tend to think in the left brain and those whose daily lives require a left-brained presence have found it highly effective long-term to engage in integrative right hemisphere brainwave activity, daily meditation and self-hypnosis, which stimulate the integration of right hemisphere brainwaves.
