Hello gorgeous and welcome back to the Sexyfit Podcast!
Emotional eating, binge eating, eating in isolation, closet eating – call these behaviors however you want. The solution to them is one and all the same.
It all comes down to the idea of trusting our body and understanding what it wants and needs.
This doesn’t usually happen in fitness. Fitness and fat loss usually come in a box or in the shape of a meal plan. But meal plans don’t allow us to trust our body. That is why I lean towards the macronutrient approach which helps us understand what our body needs on scientific level, which emotions we are actually craving and which ones we are trying to numb or hide.
Binge eating happens when there is a negative emotion that is not being felt and acknowledged. Your body and mind doesn’t want to feel the negative emotion, and it will do everything to keep us safe.
It comes back to trusting ourselves with these emotions and trusting our body to understand what it really needs.
If you’ve been struggling with binge eating, I invite you to open a conversation on the emotion you are trying to feel.
Question #1 – How do I feel?
Journaling is a great way to express our emotions, because then we create the possibility to heal them. Start using the words “I feel” in your journal. If you feel sad, disappointed, joyful, happy, write it down.
Question #2 – Why do I feel this way?
Once you have the awareness of a particular feeling, you can deepen the conversation to truly understand WHY you feel that way. Remember that you cannot argue with feelings. All you need to do is understand them. Then you can figure out whether you want to explore this further.
Question #3 – What do I need?
Let your body answer. How do you know it’s your body that answers and not your mind? Your mind is racing with thoughts, but if you listen carefully, your body will give you a calm and quiet answer.
Every time you have emotional eating episode coming up – I invite you, no matter how difficult it is to not pour another glass of wine or not have a pantry party, to just journal how you feel and lots of beautiful things will come up. The more we engage in this inner dialogue, the less we will judge ourselves.
However, the true is that it does takes willingness to give this a try.
The difference it will bring for us who want to grow and take the relationship with self to a whole new level, is that we’ll soon see the benefits of a happier, healthier and sexier lifestyle.
