Hello gorgeous, today we're talking about some habits you might have, that are actually causing you to gain weight. Perhaps you're not even noticing them, but as a result the weight is slowly creeping in and you don't know why. I wanted to draw your attention to those bad habits, since we are moving into the holiday season and it's going to be harder to keep the weight off.
Now let's get straight into the 6 habits that are preventing you from having the body that you want.
Night time snacks are not causing you to gain weight per se. It's the fact that we never budget for those snacks in our daily macro count. We may think we will have the will power to resist late night munching but in reality it rarely ever happens. Whether you are snacking on carbs or protein, make sure you are realistic and you know you're going to do that. Budget for them, plan your snacks to fit in your macros and just be prepared.
- Not eating all day and then eating everything in the evening
This is something that slows down your metabolism big time and causes you to gain weigh. Even if what you eat in the evening fits your macros, it's not the best way to go, because food is your fuel. You ABSOLUTELY need to eat throughout the day. It's necessary to have enough energy and be a fully functional human being. Eating everything in one take just won't work.
There are 2 schools of thought on alcohol. One says that alcohol is just like a macro and you count it like you would count other macros. The second school says it's slowing down the metabolism and liver function. My take on it is that I never met anyone who drinks wine every day and has the body of their dreams. If you want to have alcohol every night and want to lose weight at the same time, ask yourself if your habits align with your goals. I did a whole podcast episode on drinking and weigh loss, check it out HERE.
- Eating and snacking in front of the TV
When you come home from work and eat in front of TV, here is what happens. Your body doesn’t really know you’re eating because you focus on TV and not on chewing the food. I would suggest that you eat your meal first and then watch the show if you want. Snacking in front of TV is even worse. Your body doesn't even register that you are eating. It doesn’t really matter then what you're eating, you don’t know portion size, you’ll just keep going and eventually gain weight. Try not having snacks in front of TV for 7 days, and I bet you won’t want to do it ever again.
Not going to bed on time causes you to not get enough sleep. Deprived of sleep, your body isn’t able to dedicate energy to fat loss, to be awake and be a fully functional human being. Don’t think you’re glorifying your productivity by not sleeping, it’s silly. Also, if you sleep in front of TV, the lights from the TV disturb your sleep and you'll never know what deep sleep really is. The same goes for technology, being on your devices before sleep is not going to do any good. I did a whole podcast episode on anxiety and sleeping, and what happens in our body when we are deprived of sleep. Check it out HERE.
When you go to sleep you’re still a fully functional being that needs water and oxygen. Have a glass of water before sleep. That way you’ll feel less bloated the next day, and you'll get a habit to go to bathroom right away in the morning.
So these are the 6 bedtime habits that are causing you to gain weight. Feel free to share this episode with a friend! And next week I'll give you an update on my long awaited book, since it's been a really interesting journey :)
With love,
Zlata
