Although McLaren-Mercedes' Lando Norris was impressively fast in the closing stages of the Spanish GP, it was again Max Verstappen who secured another win - his 61st - on the circuit on which, in 2016, he first opened his account. Sir Lewis Hamilton finished third for Mercedes, ahead of team-mate George Russell; and Ferrari were fifth and sixth. The race was coloured by numerous, outstanding, overtakes and by the lack of a Safety Car intervention.

Talking live on CameronF1, Peter in this podcast comments on the recent passing of Françoise Hardy (who played Lisa in the movie "Grand Prix"); the problems facing young drivers with talent (but no budget); and the key elements of the Canadian GP, including Lewis Hamilton's prospects for the remainder of this year and the penalty incurred by Red Bull Racing for attempting to pre-empt the Race Director re Safety Car deployment.

Although the FIA have yet to publish detailed rules defining the 2026 F1 car, they recently announced broad-brush parameters for the car's aero configuration, power unit, minimum weight and other key dimensions. In this podcast Peter Windsor talks through this published framework with our technical motor sport expert, Craig Scarborough.

Changeable weather conditions in both qualifying and the race combined to make this a Canadian GP to remember. Mercedes' George Russell and McLaren-Mercedes' Lando Norris both looked strong in various stages of Saturday and Sunday but in the closing moments of the race, on a dry track, in a Safety Car re-start, it was Red Bull-Honda's Max Verstappen who drove impeccably to win. McLaren and Mercedes picked up the minor placings, with Sir Lewis Hamilton setting fastest race lap, but it was a mediocre day for Aston Martin and a deplorable weekend for Ferrari, who, with both cars, failed to make Q3 and finished short of the chequered flag on Sunday. As Peter details in this podcast, there was also a sour note in the closing stages when Red Bull Racing, in order to try to avoid a Safety Car deployment, instructed their second driver, Sergio Perez, to drive slowly back to the pits after leaving the road and damaging his RB20.

Peter predicted in the build-up to the Monaco GP that Ferrari would be super quick...and so it proved. Charles Leclerc not only won his third pole at Monaco but also went on to win at home for the first time, replicating the achievement of Louis Chiron in 1931. It was, as such, a momentously significant race for F1 - but it was also an unusual one: the Pirelli hard- and medium-compound tyres ran virtually the full race distance; and for many laps the top four were covered by only four seconds. Many observers - but not Peter - were critical of the slow race pace that engendered these aspects. As Peter points out in this podcast, however, speed is only relative - as the violence of the first-corner accident, and the suspense of the afternoon, clearly proved.

It was breathtakingly close at Imola in both qualifying and in the race. Max Verstappen won from the pole for Red Bull-Honda but the McLaren-Mercedes drivers pushed him all the way, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri proving that the updated 2024 McLaren can also shine on a circuit very different from Miami. Ferrari were the third-best team, still lacking a little top speed, but the recent updates at Mercedes left Lewis Hamilton and George Russell fighting only for the minor places. Preceded by an emotional tribute to Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger, who lost their lives at Imola 30 years ago, the 2024 race was remarkable not only for the tiny margin (0.7sec) separating Max and Lando at the finish but also for the absence of either a virtual or actual Safety Car.

Peter Windsor details a busy weekend in Miami. Max Verstappen won the Saturday sprint for Red Bull-Honda but it was McLaren-Mercedes' Lando Norris who was Sunday's star, not only winning his first Grand Prix but also McLaren's first since Monza, 2021.
