Sua obra mostra um Brasil que vai do tempo da escravidão a Getúlio Vargas. Única mulher no grupo de 40 fundadores da Academia Brasileira de Letras, e fora da entidade, por ser mulher. Em seu lugar assumiu a Cadeira 3 da ABL, seu marido, Filinto Lopes de Almeida, o “acadêmico consorte”. Escritora, jornalista, feminista, abolicionista ela foi a primeira “escritora profissional” do Brasil e a mulher com maior número de obras publicadas em sua época. Em texto limpo – mas detalhista -, de ironia fina e finais inesperados, surpreendentes, desconcertantes, Júlia Lopes de Almeida desenha quadros da vida brasileira que retratam as relações, os valores, os hábitos dessa época de transição que ela soube relatar como poucos. Ancia Eterna (hoje Ânsia Eterna) é Júlia Lopes de Almeida em seu melhor. Contos desta obra que valem destaque? Os Porcos, A Caolha, In Extremis, O Caso de Ruth, o Futuro Presidente... e outros 25. Escute e tire suas próprias conclusões. Em tempo, tem gente que considera a visão, a linguagem dela racista. É a linguagem de uma época, retratando a situação de uma época, que não poderia ser mostrada de outra forma. E é importante que assim se mostre pois é testemunha importante da realidade do Brasil.
