Rabbi Louis Ginzberg was one of the outstanding Talmudists of the twentieth century. He was born on November 28, 1873, in Kovno, Lithuania; he died on November 11, 1953, in New York City. Ginzberg taught at the Jewish Theological seminary from 1903 to 1953. For 50 years, he trained two generations of Conservative Rabbis.The Legends of the Jews is an epic 7-volume compilation of traditional Jewish stories loosely related to the Bible. Volumes 1-4 contain the stories, while volumes 5-7 contain Ginzberg’s notes and commentary. Over the millenia, these stories, which expand on the Bible, flesh out the lives of biblical figures. In the process, they help bring to life the Bible’s valuable lessons.The Legends of the Jews has been called a monumental work of scholarship. It is studied by serious students of both Judaism and Christianity. And yet the stories continue to be accessible and understood by all. They were designed to impart lessons of the Torah, and any child or adult will find much to enjoy about this work.

Behind The Scene

Doctor Thorne is the third of Trollope's Barsetshire novels, and unlike some of the others, has little to do with the politics and personalities of the Church of England, or politics on the national level (though there is lots of politicking in the mythical county of Barsetshire itself). The plot revolves around the illegitimate Mary Thorne, who has been lovingly raised by her uncle, a country doctor, and who, as she comes of age, finds herself wondering whether she is a lady (in the county sense of the term). Frank Gresham, son of the squire of Greshamsbury, is in love with her (much against the wishes of his noble de Courcy relatives at the Castle), but she dismisses his affection at first as mere puppy love, thereby setting the scene for a series of entanglements, social, romantic, and of course, financial and propertied (never far from the action in Trollope's works). Their resolution, of course, makes up the meat of the novel. One critic has remarked that in Doctor Thorne Trollope succeeds in one of the most difficult tasks an author of fiction can face: how to make genuinely good people genuinely interesting, so that they engage not only the sympathies but also the interest of readers. 娓娓讲故事——有趣的成长故事，走心的语文教育：想及时获取“娓娓讲故事”音频，请马上关注微信公众号“语文社区”，听娓娓老师讲故事吧！ &nbsp; 微信公众号是每晚及时更新的哦^_^ 娓娓老师——省普通话测试员、语言文字先进个人、小教高级...... 《格林童话》是由德国语言学家，雅可布·格林和威廉·格林兄弟收集、整理、加工完成的德国民间文学。它是世界童话的经典之作，自问世以来，在世界各地影响十分广泛。格林兄弟以其丰富的想象、优美的语言给孩子们讲述了一个个神奇而又浪漫的童话故事。在国内，日本，台湾也有根据《格林童话》创作的故事集。 内容简介1812年格林童话第一集出版，包含了86篇童话故事，第二集增加了70个故事，内容不断扩充，格林兄弟生前出版（第七版）的故事集有200则，加上圣徒传说多达210则，再加上补遗就有215则。其中以《灰姑娘》、《玫瑰小姐》、《受骗的青蛙》、《雪白和玫瑰红》、《猫和老鼠交朋友》、《聪明的农家女》、《三兄弟》、《月亮》、《熊皮人》、《石竹》、《白雪公主》、《小红帽》、《睡美人》、《糖果屋》、《青蛙王子》、《渔夫和他的妻子》、《野狼和七只小羊》、《大拇指》、《勇敢的小裁缝》、《不莱梅的城市乐手》、《穿靴子的猫》较为闻名。《格林童话》内容广泛，体裁多样，除了童话外，还有民间故事、笑话、寓言等。其中故事大致分三类：一是神魔故事，如《灰姑娘》、《白雪公主》、《玫瑰公主》、《青蛙王子》、《小矮人与老鞋匠》、《玻璃瓶中的妖怪》等，这些故事情节曲折、惊险奇异、变幻莫测。二是以动物为主人公的拟人童话，如《猫和老鼠》、《狼与七只小山羊》、《金鸟》等，这些故事中的动物既富有人情，又具有动物特点，生动可爱。三是以日常生活为题材的故事，如《快乐的汉斯》、《三兄弟》等，这些故事中的人物勤劳质朴、幽默可爱。时代背景格林兄弟生活和创作的命运同德国文学的浪漫主义时期不可分割地联系在一起。由法国大革命（1789—1794）催生的浪漫主义文学运动在18—19世纪之交席卷全欧，最先在德国这片混乱、落后的土地上开花结果。当时的德国，可谓欧洲最灾难深重的民族国家。自“三十年战争”（1618—1648）后，沦为主要战场的德国，其政治经济都分崩离析，虽然名义上还顶着“神圣罗马帝国”的名号，实质却分裂成由360多个大大小小的公国和自由城市组成的“布头封建帝国”’一个结构松散的混合体，社会发展严重迟缓。1806年，横扫欧洲的拿破仑战争彻底瓦解了神圣罗马帝国，在法国的征服和统治下，德国民众的民族意识被唤醒，要求德意志民族统一强大的渴望空前高涨。在这种状况下，大批知识分子投入到民族解放运动之中。但此时支离破碎的德国社会，诸多林立的公国之间存在的包括语言、文化等在内的差异成为民族统一的障碍，为了消除这一文化上的阻碍，德国知识界开始宣扬文化民族主义，希望借助古老的日耳曼民族文化来促成民族统一，这一时期的德国浪漫派在秉承浪漫主义文化精神的同时，亦将眼光转向民间文化传统领域，整理研究德国民间文学并使之发扬光大。就这样，德国浪漫主义在整理研究德国民间文学中取得的卓越成就，有力推动了德意志民族文学的发展，提升了德国文学在世界文学中的地位。《格林童话》就诞生在这样的时代氛围和社会环境之中。创作过程俗称为格林童话的《儿童与家庭童话集》，在1812年第1卷出版之前，经历了长达6年的收集工作。而从1812年初版至1857年终版，其间更经历了将近半个世纪的修订再版，以及数个不同版本。格林童话不都是对口传故事的采录，其中有相当数量的篇幅是来自书面材料。格林童话也不是原汁原味的纯粹的德国民间童话，而是受到法国等欧洲其他国家民间童话的影响，甚至有些童话源于他国。那些口传故事的叙述者，也并非以没有受过教育的乡野村民为主，而是大部分来自出身良好的中产阶级家庭。格林兄弟收集、发表这些民间童话，并不企图逐字逐句、机械照搬原材料。对他们来说，最重要的是保存所记下来的民间童话故事的本真性特征并把它们的意义和精神表达出来。他们一方面遵循忠实记录的原则，谨慎对待民间口头创作，保留故事的内容、主旨，情节发展的方式和方向，尽力保持童话的原始风貌，保留这些民间故事员天然质朴的一面，“我们力图保持童话的本来的全部纯洁性，其中的任何一个情节既没有捏造，没有渲染，也没有改变，因为我们力图避免对于本来就很丰富的情节根据任何类推法和想当然进行充实的企图。”另一方面格林兄弟又对于从不同的叙述人和记录者那里所得来的全部故事进行校订和语言修辞方面的修饰，以便保持统一的童话体裁、语言风格以及和谐的韵味，但决不做过多的文学加工。最终，格林童话给人以这样的印象：好像所有的故事都是由一个叙述者讲述的——以一种简单朴累而又生动活泼的民间口头语言的叙述风格。人物形象《格林童话》中的形象的特征鲜明，价值取向明显，表现出对真善美的追求，同情弱小，歌颂善良勇敢，讽刺虚伪愚塞，鞭挞贪婪自私，符合人类社会一致的道德价值观，这种善恶观通过直观生动的形象显现出来，符合儿童的心理特点与理解能力。格林童话中所宣扬的伦理道德观，有利于培养儿童的是非观、善恶观、真伪观、道德观甚至人生现。《格林童话》寄托了人世间最美好的善，也揭示了人本身潜藏的恶。它指引儿童进行正确的伦理选择，形成正确的善恶观，故事的完美结局为儿童构建了充满希望和理想的乌托邦。有学者认为“在童话中，假、恶、丑虽然常常与其、善、美并存于世，并互相发生冲突，但最终的结局基本上都是正面的。 从整体上来看，童话展示的正是一个从冲突走向和谐的过程，从中看到了其对现实社会和谐伦理观的追求”，《格林童话》中非人全兽形象、半人半兽形象、人的伦理形象三个类型代表了儿童理性成熟的三个阶段。作品影响1812年，这些故事结集成《儿童和家庭童话集》的第一卷，于圣诞节前夕在柏林问世，大受欢迎。此后直到1857年，格林兄弟不断补充故事，并一再修订，共推出七个版次。第七版后来成为在各国流传的原著版本，至今已译成数十种语言，许多故事都广为流传。 《格林童话》获选为世界文化遗产，被联合国教科文组织称赞为“欧洲和东方童话传统划时代的汇编作品”。 《格林童话》还被加入到联合国教科文组织“世界记忆”项目中。 在中国，至少有100种以上的译本和译改本。在西方基督教国家中，他的销量仅次于《圣经》。
